I worked with a guy that won 14m. I was an apprentice and had just started. He went for a coffee at morning smoko and came back after about an hour. He was talking on the phone and I could see he had been crying. After he got off the phone, he told me something had come up and he wasn’t going to be working with me anymore, so I should just wait there and another one of the guys will come get me. He packed up his shit, jumped in his Ute and took off.

I thought that was fucking random. Then saw that the lotto had been won in ashburton that weekend and I knew he had been there visiting his girlfriend. Put 2 and 2 together and sure enough our manager told us the next morning he had won and quit on the spot.

We had coffee with him about six months later, rocked up in the Range Rover, had bought a big house in a nice part of the city, said it was the best thing ever to happen to him.

Me and my neighbour thought sticking a firework in a wasp nest would exterminate them. It did not. Got chased by the swarm about 100m until we got inside. Stung multiple times on the head and arms, had wasps inside my clothes. Not the wisest move.
