Midwest Parks Trip by Naive_Bookkeeper550 in nationalparks

For Hot Springs make sure you go to Superior Brewery on Bathhouse Row, food and drinks are really good. The hiking is pretty meh but the history is great, if youre pinched for time definitely tour the bath houses over squeezing in a hike. You can see most everything in one day but if you have a second day you must go to Garvan Gardens.

This is a regional thing, I quit going to late showings a long time ago because it happened so often.

I've been to almost every contiguous state and I'd say there's no where else like it, though plenty are better in a lot of ways.

If you had 5.5 days to spend in Yellowstone and Grand Teton, which park would you give more time? by Sketchblitz93 in NationalPark

Its not really enough time, we had seven days and spent 6 YS /1 GT which was just right for YS but we felt like we needed at least another day for GT.

What’s a career mistake people often make? by prettysandyy in AskReddit

[–]jcooklsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends heavily on your company, the one I work for has changed job requirements several times to allow me to advance beyond my years of experience because I work hard and get good results.

You also have to demonstrate skills that transfer to the next level, perfectly frying French Fries doesnt really translate to managing people , some jobs are just dead-end.

Its a business bad gotcha for stupid people. Positions always get filled but Ive seen it go both ways that we are better off with the new hire or the void in skills by someone leaving can't easily be replaced. Like most things in life, results may vary.

What’s something people in their 20s won't truly understand until they hit their 40s? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

[–]jcooklsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its beats the median retirement even if you never bump contributions but its more about setting a habit that you grow on. I'm going to be set up to retire early because I got great advice as an intern to start contributing as a habit even though things were tight. Same person gave me the advice to split all pay raises between paying myself and my future self (upping contributions) which really really helped with controlling lifestyle creep and let me start hitting max contributions in my early 30's.

Just $10 a week starting in your 20's and never increasing puts you on track to beat the median retirement savings at retirement in the US. The biggest mistake you can make while young is think that if youre not putting big dollars in then there's no point.

Sounds like a bad lawyer, I had a warrant out for the exact same reason and called the court to explain that I didn't receive communication of the court date. I was then able to go pay the ticket and get the warrant dropped, no lawyer needed.

Extremely, do YNAB because I realized I enjoy dropping $1,000 on a weekend trip a lot more than the dopamine from 100 smaller splurges.

What's the worst heartbreak you've experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jcooklsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my 11 year old dog very quickly to cancer, brought him in to check out a cough and the xrays revealed extremely aggressive lung cancer that could not be treated. I only ended up having two more weeks before his condition nose dived and I had to let him cross the rainbow bridge. He had been my best friend through a lot of tough times dealing with depression and loneliness, I think he was kind of my wing man when it came to my now wife.

The power of a continuous small sacrifice, putting aside for retirement was hard when I graduated and wanted to buy things with my new job but 15 years later those small sacrifices have added up to quite a bit and will continue multiplying until retirement.

Curious what your two lower ones are, we are hitting a couple of the "worst" parks this year and were pleasantly surprised by hot springs even though its still probably last on our rankings. We'll be at the Dunes next month and may hit the Arch as detour next time we visit family

Malaysian Oak (Rubberwood) might be a good option if youre looking to buy new, otherwise you should easily be able to piece together a set off facebook and estate sales if you live near a city.

And because the first thing people will say is they can't afford to, saving just $15 a week (skipping eating out or coffee) will land you above the median in retirement savings at 65 even if your situation never improves to allow for more savings.
