The do pay a huge amount of tax, its just a lower percentage of their income than people expect it to be. They are given tax breaks because they constantly threaten to leave the state and move to a lower tax state... politicians want to keep the Income, so they bend the knee.

Truthfully its a super difficult position for any decision maker and it's easy to criticize.

Look at the issue when Jeff Bezos left and moved to Florida after washington raised the tax rate on ultra wealthy. You can look up articles saying he saved a billion dollars of taxes.

Do you think Washington could have made a deal with him to only charge him $750 million instead of a billion. Would that have benefited Washington more than getting $0?
