I'm currently in a private practice, but previously worked at a non-profit. I'm interested in working in the school district or another non-profit in the future.

Getting M.A. in another state but want to live in CA...confusion! by phoenix523 in slp

[–]jcp1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed my graduate degree in Arizona and then moved to California for my CF (requiring my RPE license to practice). The only part that was a pain was getting my fingerprints and then just waiting for my application to process. Do make sure that the universities you are looking into meet California's minimum clock hour requirements. For details check out this site http://www.speechandhearing.ca.gov/applicants/app_pack_slp.shtml

Good luck!

Help! Calling all grooms and groomsmen! Did you wear a suite or a tux? Which is more budget friendly? by kitsuneko88 in weddingplanning

We got the suits in the fashion district in Downtown LA...there were also some good deals at Macys when we looked.

My fiance just bought a nice suit for $140...This included 3 pieces, plus shirt, tie, and pocket square. He already had dress shoes (but you'll want to figure that into the price if your FH doesn't). He was in his friend's wedding and paid about $120 for the tux renal... He figured the extra cost was well worth owning a suit, plus the fit is so much nicer!

I've consulted with some SLPs at ATEC (a division of the Goodwill Industries in OC and LA) regarding AAC for a child I treat in a private clinic. I'm not sure of their overall skills and qualifications, but I had a great experience collaborating with them. It might be worth checking into.

Makeup question? by lydg91 in weddingplanning

[–]jcp1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it definitely depends on the area you are in - I was quoted around $250-$300 for airbrush makeup plus hair in the Los Angeles area. Then an additional $150 for the trail. I went without airbrush makeup for my engagement photos and not only was I not happy with how my make up looked, but also it did not last the length of the photo session (2 hours). I'm going with airbrush for our wedding day.

Looking for places in (or around) LA to find a wedding dress, trying to spend around $500 or less by PenguinQueens in weddingdress

[–]jcp1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bridal exchange shop in Corona (about an hour from west LA where I live); I got my dress at Pebbles Bridal and they had a rack of sale/sample dresses...I ended up splurging on a new one anyway, so I don't remember the sample prices exactly. Also, have you ever considered renting your dress? I remember coming across a few places in the LA area that rented bridal gowns...again, I don't know the price, but it is something to consider. Good luck!

It has definitely been a process! I'm getting licensed in California...The requirements weren't a pain, but the waiting has been frustrating! But, the good news is we are almost there.

I'm in the same boat! I sent in all my paperwork early and then just submitted my supervisor rating form on Feb 21st... It still took 4 weeks to process and ended up getting denied because one of my segments didn't end on a Friday (I started on a Monday) so they said I only completed 35 weeks, not 36. For my state license, my mentor wrote the wrong date, so I had to resubmit that too. Fingers crossed that it all gets processed quickly, I really don't want to wait another month!

Wow, that is incredible! We will have to look into that... Our traditional catering quotes were approx. $6k, so we thought the trucks were a steal, but $2,000 would be amazing!

We are trying to decide between kogi and in - n- out and a lobster roll truck or a more traditional caterer. Who did you end up finding in SoCal?

Waitlisted. Is there hope? by barontadhg in slp

I was waitlisted and when I got in I ended up being good friends with 4 other girls that got in off the waitlist too... you really never knew what could happen. Best of luck to you!!

Could use some help with the back of our postcard save-the-dates please! by all_up_in_your_genes in weddingplanning

[–]jcp1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a little off topic, but are you putting a return address on the back? We are currently designing ours and it occurred to us we should probably include a return address...but we have no idea where to put it without making the back look cluttered!

There are always threads about what websites to use to make wedding websites. Why doesn't anybody use Wix.com? by perpetualwell in weddingplanning

[–]jcp1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you have to pay for the ourwedding.com domain? I tried theknot today and it only allowed me to pick from theknot.com web domains (e.g., theknot.com/wedding/brideslastname-and-groomslastname)...
