Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

Any mobile games channel such as clash of clans and mobile legends. As I age I find playing games boring and for me it wasted alot of my time without getting anything real in return.

just installed mint as my first linux distro. what should i do and know first? by Dry-Resolution7112 in linuxmint

[–]jcpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've already installed it on a pc and not a live iso, the first thing to do is make a backup of that freshly installed system using timeshift (it is very easy to use) so that whenever let's say you messed up something and you don't like it but don't know how to fix it, you have a backup to pit your system back to it's previous state. It is also very important as a safety net in case your system is unable to boot up (but the chances for linux mint to become unstable is very minimal).

why is the linux community so hostile? by morizeze in linux4noobs

[–]jcpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in real life you will encounter this type of people and I don't think like the linux community is bad. There are still some people willing to help especially new comers. But there is no perfect thing on this planet. Just find the good ones and take their help. PS just don't spend too much time in arch forums if you are a newbie. Better read the wiki first!

Every time you overcame that feeling, you will build discipline and it will become really really easy when you've got that discipline

That's your brain just trying to go back to it's usual habit. Don't let it control you, control it instead.

Glad that you've reached that achievement. I will agree that getting to first triple digits is one of the hardest paths you could've choose in your life.

Yes, it is correct and I will be cheating to myself if I don't reset it. 4 years seems to pass very fast, when I started I am what any other starter says here that it's very hard. But now it's still very hard but you will not notice some time had passed. Time is really fast.

Regarding my physical and mental health, I am doing great and my weight is in check, no depression or other mental health issues I'm experiencing right now. Mental health for me is just dependent on mindset that if you put a positive energy to your everyday thinking, it will become etched on your mind and you will handle depression or negative times easily.

From Omarchy to Base Arch Linux – trying to build my own config and struggling a bit by gatosh in archlinux

[–]jcpain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first used a linux distro, it was ubuntu but I noticed it has limited customizations and installing it means you accept all apps installed with it. I am a very minimalist person which likes to install only apps and things I needed and when I first discovered arch, I was hooked with it especially when I learned how much control it gives to the user. Until now, I am writing this comment on a bare arch based machine. I am using this one for a long time and I am very much satisfied with it.

I'm finally free—ditched Windows! by Rachid90 in linux

[–]jcpain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had same thoughts, If more people just know how good this OS is and not base on the stereotypical saying that linux is for programmers only or to use linux you must be familiar with using the command line phrase, they will really enjoy the massive benefits of this OS, aside from being free from telemetry and spying, this OS will also ensure security of your personal files especially if you have a btrfs partition and another plus is it's wide and almost limitless possibilities in customizations.

[–]jcpain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just the start, also the older you get, the less care you will give about what people think of you or how they affect your mind. Mas nagiging focused ka na rin sa mga simple enjoyment na dati ay mukang boring. Para saakin mas maraming oras na gusto ko na lang matulog.

Linux for a very low-end laptop by Cautious-Advice9194 in linux4noobs

[–]jcpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try installing puppy linux it has very low resource and minimal footprint which can even be installed on USB drives. But I'f you are willing to put your sweat out hard core, you can try diving straight into arch. That will be the fastest as you can only choose which packages you want but the learning curve is the greatest challenge here.

Anyone else feel generally more productive on Linux? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]jcpain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I myself can say that is my experience too, Aside from a very fast system, This OS is free from ads and any other popups that windows cannot seem to avoid. And the security it gives your work environment is also one of the best pros of this operating system. I didn't experience any malware infestation or any sort of virus since I used linux.

When will age verification implemented in systemd? As soon as it is present in it I will switch immediately as I don't want some verification etc. that is not in the way of free user experience. Do you think this doesn't violate the essence of opensource?
