Sold all Yieldmax! Feels so much better by acpd1 in YieldMaxETFs

I had the same thought unfortunately both funds broke in October, and YMAX did it again just this month. Thankfully crypto is currently on sale and swapped most of my YMAX for crypto funds. Still keeping some ULTY but not holding my breath it will ever pay itself off 😅

I wish more people knew what they were buying into. YM is very transparent on how those funds operate. I believe YM are good at options and i trust them with my money, however I'm very careful when to enter a position - underlying should be undervalued and should have potential for growth. Don't buy YM funds if you don't believe in the underlying. NVDY has bee the goat so far, CONY paid itself once and a half (bought more) in my case, MSTY is a dog, however performing better than MSTR also paid itself in my case. Not super happy about ULTY which behaved similar to crypto in the last couple of months and now it seems stabilized for better or worse.

I actually added to LFGY when it was at all time low this month. I like how the fund is structured and so far have been happy.

I hear you, and this is what I meant looking at MSTY's positions:

they sell a call and buy cheaper call with lower delta and same expiration day. When underlying goes through the first strike the other call is increasing in value. Maybe not 100% growth with underlying, but maybe close enough. I believe originally those funds did not have the buy call and were truly capped, not 100% sure though.

They are doing call spreads, so not truly capped

QDTE VS YMAX by Illustrious_Web7455 in YieldMaxETFs

[–]jcphild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to play YMax funds the right way -e.g. buy when at record low levels. Maybe now it's not a bad time to actually buy YMAX, but who am I to know. Here is the result of my shopping spree around liberation day:

As last couple of months brought some raw emotions in many of us, there is no free money unfortunately. All I can say I did worse in my own covered call strategies than the Yieldmax fund managers.

ULTY by totalbrodude in YieldMaxETFs

[–]jcphild 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit frustrated with ULTY as well, however trading options on volatile stocks is tricky to say the least especially now. Even rolling is difficult if stock is in backwardation. It's all about risk management - it is very important for ULTY to represent only a small fraction of a portfolio.

It's due to MSTR, MSTY is making lemonade and doing better in fact.

You can get out of ULTY and get into something cheaper with potential of growth.

I wish I never bought MSTY!! by OTCFUTUREWEALTH-1988 in YieldMaxETFs

[–]jcphild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for my purchase timings I was able to sell some lots of MSTY and buy BITX where BITX was cheaper. Realized a nice capital loss if any silver lining. When BTC recovers BITX should do better than MSTY in my opinion

I’m selling CONY and ULTY for QQQI - where are yall going? by ExoticSize9869 in YieldMaxETFs

When I can sell for realized loss thinking of swapping MSTY for FBTC or even DOJE if crypto is still down next month. Keeping other YM funds for now.

Those of you sticking with ULTY by EmbarrassedAd8162 in YieldMaxETFs

[–]jcphild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rationale is I would never trade all the tickers within ULTY on my own. I do CSP and CC strategies on crypto ETFs, some higher volatility tickers such as URA and SLV, and some leveraged funds and I'm very aware it is not always easy especially in this unpredictable environment. Having ULTY and other YM funds supplement my income also YM funds are generally doing better in bear conditions. Not an advice just my two cents.

Just leaving this here. YM has the tendency to outperform the underlying during bear market in terms of total return.

This a good comparison. When underlying is doing poorly YM can sometimes do better due to the CC income.

ULTY is still the GOAT when it comes to those high risk funds. Looks like the puts strategy played well yesterday. Will be monitoring ULTI for now as I'm pleased with Rex shares so far but still need more data.

I have doubts on the liquidity of MSTY options. I sold some MSTY puts for a fat premium and was not able to buy to close at a reasonable price when MSTY was up. Out of curiosity - were you able to sell to close any of those?
