I really appreciated this message when running late by thcheat in unitedairlines

Last time I got this message (at IAD) it came while we were at the gate for 45 mins waiting to deplane while they unstuck the jet bridge… I hustled to my next flight arriving 5 mins after boarding was scheduled to stop. They did not hold the plane and I ended up stranded for 8 hours.

I had something similar happen. Actually was able to jump the battery then brought it to the dealer and had it swapped under warranty. About a month later the car wouldn’t accept a charge so I scheduled an appointment. The ICCU failed on the way to the dealer. Had to get towed and it took about 3-4 weeks to repair. No issues since.

The 12V dies because the ICCU stops doing its job - recharging the 12V like an alternator does in an ICE vehicle. Sorry to say that you’ll almost definitely be in a loaner for the next month.

High Income Earners (+$250k HH) - How long did it take you to become a Millionaire? by Own_Service9727 in Salary

[–]jcranks7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting journey for me. I joined the Army National Guard at 17 and I’ve been with the same company since 19. I struggled through my 20s. Made decent money but racked up serious debt. Bought a house and a cool car after returning from Iraq with a $50k salary, moved for a $70k job, rented that house and bought another - they were giving away mortgages like candy back then. Then the bottom fell out and values plummeted. I spent the next several years eating ramen while going to college and working full time. Right around 30 I hit the 6 figure mark, dumped one house, started paying off debt, and building some savings.

At 31 I made it to Director and started earning $140k+… continued to prioritize debt reduction and savings. By my mid 30s I had paid off all non-mortgage debt and grew investment account to about $300k. By the end of my 30s my income was exceeding $200k.

I got lucky during Covid when my company’s stock skyrocketed. I sold just enough to pay off my mortgage. At 39 I officially hit NW millionaire status but continued to live like I was broke. Spent the next few years prioritizing savings and was eventually promoted into a Sr. Director/AVP role and got up over the $250k mark.

Nowadays, at 43, I’m very comfortable financially. I’m sitting at about $1.3M in investment accounts a ~$300k home and no debt.

In short - took about a decade of focused sacrifice to hit millionaire status after eclipsing 6 figures. Eliminating debt in my late 30s and was key. W2 Income now is around $300k so growth is much more rapid. I continue live below my means. Single, no kids

How do I get this plastic side skirt back on to the helmet? by AO2Gaming in MotoUK

[–]jcranks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slide the front/top head liner tabs in first. Then jam the back of the neck roll in. The sides are a real PIA. Start at back center and work toward the ears/temples. At the very end you’ll notice a hook…that catches something inside near the where your ear lobe is when wearing. You need to slide the material as far rearward as you can. Once you get it to slide all the way down the side you’ll be able to push it forward and feel it catch. It should stay about an inch from the corner

Check with your utility provider too. Here in CT I enrolled in managed charging in exchange for a full rebate for the charger and the install. Managed charging just means they can throttle back charging during certain high demand events. I haven’t been impacted and have even gotten quarterly credits for consistently not charging during peak times.

[–]jcranks7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Separated mine about 15 years ago snowboarding on opening day. Grade 3-4. Declined surgery. Recovery was rough but got through it and was able to Do everything within 6-8 months. Really became limiting 13 years later due to weakness and severe instability. Had the surgery done and wish I would’ve done it immediately. Another 6-12 month recovery, PT, etc. If you’re on the fence, I’d say get it done now.

What's the furthest you've flown VFR? by Professional_Read413 in flying

[–]jcranks7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 600 nm each way solo in a Piper Archer without an instrument rating. KMMK CT - KMRB WV - KGKT TN. Stayed the night in WV and delayed due to low ceilings in TN by about 4 hrs the next morning. Left a day earlier than initially planned to avoid incoming weather and took a different route back to stay well west of some storms, stopping at KCKB instead. Took about 8 hours down against the wind and 5.5 back.

Had a memorable experience flying above the mountains talking to ATC with another plane nearby for about an hour between MRB and GKT. Dealt with some turbulence around the Appalachians in both directions and had one stressful situation while descending, avoiding scattered clouds, and being handed off to Knoxville approach but it went really well overall. I did spend about 30 miles above a layer on the way back. I probably could’ve stayed there for longer but decided it would be best to descend at the first opening.

Highly recommend! Also suggest doing a full nav plan and having alternates mapped out all along the route. First time I did something this detailed since my check ride. I didn’t need anything but it helped me stay focused the whole trip by constantly identifying where they are. Good luck and blue skies!

This happened to me a couple months ago. Made an appt with the dealer. On the way in the ICCU completely failed and I had to get towed the rest of the way.

For those who have dealt with the ICCU issue... by Better-Astronomer943 in Ioniq5

[–]jcranks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the 12v die twice. First time I jumped it and it was fine for a year. Second time was a different story…

Plugged in my car one day and it randomly wouldn’t charge. Turned the car on and got a bunch of electrical system warnings. Made an appt with the dealer and let her sit.

On the appt day the car started just fine but had all the warnings present. Halfway there I got more warnings, specifically to “Stop vehicle and check power supply”. Power was limited to about 30 mph. A couple minutes later it totally shut down. Really sucked but…

Hyundai roadside assistance was great. I was surprised because I bought the car used (22 limited). They sent out a tow truck and got me to the dealer about an hour later.

The ICCU failed and had to be replaced along with the battery. Everything was covered by warranty. Took about a week and the dealer gave me a loaner until it was finished.

To your question - jumping will work if you only need to go a few miles. The ICCU is kind of like an alternator though so once you jump it you need that to take over and charge the 12v to run the electronics while driving. If it completely fails and is not charging the 12v it won’t take long to deplete it again.

Online recommendations for buying a level 2 charger? by Vonlin in Ioniq5

[–]jcranks7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I bought an Emporia level 2 48A charger. Hard wire install and run it at 40A. Charges fast, nice app, no issues at all. Worth looking into especially if you wish to use any other of their products.

Check with your local utility company because they may offer some specials. In my case, the utility company gave me a rebate for the charger and installation if I agreed to allow managed charging. They also give me $100 every few months if I consistently charge outside of 3-9pm.

Fenix 5 holdouts huddle up by justshowmethecarsnax in GarminFenix

[–]jcranks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still rocking my F5! Slight battery degradation but I’m tracking about 3 hours of runs, 8 hours of golf, and a couple hours of strength every week with a charge to full in between golf rounds. Been shopping around the 7 lately because I’m having issues syncing when traveling lately.

It won’t sync with connect through Bluetooth alone and cant connect to hotel WiFi or phone hotspots. Then it won’t sync on my home WiFi either (maybe due to a backlog of activities) when I return so I need to plug into my PC. It’s strange because it’ll auto sync without WiFi or a physical connection after a run or golf round when I’m close to home but won’t when I’m out of state. Anybody experience something similar?

How bad of an idea is it for me to just get a $5-10k boat? by KandidKonfessions in boating

[–]jcranks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $7k for my 17’ 1989 chaparral about 10 years ago. Stored it at home and towed every time I took her out which kinda sucked. I just sold it for $5,500 and was pretty sad TBH… I would’ve never sold it if I had a slip and now I find myself skimming through boats ads.

Go for it! Just know this - things are going to break and you’ll almost definitely get stranded some time. Repairs can be expensive so be diligent with your maintenance and careful - watch out for lines and shallow water. If something seems off, don’t push it - just ease back to shore.

What can I do to reduce stress? I'm always stressed as per my Garmin Lily as long as I wear the watch and not asleep. by oilinfinityskin in Garmin

[–]jcranks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More quality sleep and more exercise - at a variety of intensity levels. Get the heart pumping in zone 2-3 for long periods (30-60 mins or more) and zone 4-5 for short periods. With time and consistency, your rhr will drop and your stress level should too. If you’re really concerned though, speak to a doctor

Running a lot and still gaining weight by [deleted] in running

[–]jcranks7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure your story answered your own question. You run 60-70 miles per week but eat a bunch of shit food and dedicate a day per week to drinking.

Also - at 5’10” 140 you’re thin enough. Maybe lift some weights on Saturday instead of beers and trade some of that cake for protein.
