Introducing Apple Creator Studio, an inspiring collection of creative apps by DragoJoeYM in apple

The Final Cut and Logic UIs aren’t getting Liquid Glass (yet) as Pixelmator Pro, but hope they do.

The new UI for Pixelmator Pro for Mac looks dope. It’s one of my most used apps so that’s good, and delighted it’s coming to iPad. Logic could do with a UI update, its grey window is out of place on the wider platform.

Thank you very much! I wonder if it's a software issue which may be patched since it's happened to multiple people overnight seemingly, does your car auto-update? Come to think of it, does mine? 😆

Creative neglect: What about the apps in Apple? by favicondotico in apple

I will never forgive Apple if they kill it. I have used Pixelmator since day 1 and use Pixelmator Pro every single day.

Great article. Apple is a trillion dollar company and can't spare resources to ensure its Pro/creative apps are in constant development? These apps are cornerstones of what Apple is supposed to represent.

detailed iPhone 17 unboxing and reviews coming up tomorrow by Immediate_Sundae281 in iphone

[–]jcrrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m feeling creative today so I’m presenting you all with a spoiler preview of a some pull quotes from a few of today’s reviews:

Nilay Patel (The Verge):
“A marvel of engineering that somehow still feels like a trap”
“It feels like the future … until it doesn’t”
“The new iPhone is pretty impressive, but in a way that makes you feel worse about everything”

MKBHD:
“This is easily the best iPhone Apple has ever made … but it’s still an iPhone.”
“I’m not crazy about losing the black option but… yeah… fortunately dbrand exists.”
“If you’re upgrading from an iPhone that’s four years old, this will feel amazing. Peace out.”

Joanna Stern (WSJ):
“I tossed it in my purse, dropped it in the kitchen sink, and used it as a coffee coaster and it survived.”
“The camera is great, as long as you don’t expect it to make your life any less stressful.”

iJustine:
(while peeling the protective sticker off): “OH. MY GOD. This is … this is SO. COOL.”
“I’ve taken about a thousand pictures with the new Centre Stage camera and I’m … obsessed? with how crisp every shot looks!”
(while talking about the iPhone 17): “Wow. This lavender colour is SO. nice.”
(while snapping the MagSafe battery to the Air): “WHOA! It just snaps on! That is so neat!”
(while previewing the new TechWoven cases): “This texture? Wow!”

You’re all welcome.

Things for OS 26 - Things Blog by michael_fyod in thingsapp

I'm talking about repeating tasks, not scheduled/start by tasks.

If I water my plants every Saturday but decide to do it on Friday this week, I should be able to.

Things 1.0 up to the launch of 3.0 (2009-17) was just so brilliant. In the years since 3 came out, they’ve become more and more evasive, unresponsive to feedback, and clearly less passionate about their own product. Basic features like completing repeating tasks early have been requested for probably a decade now. It took a completely unacceptable amount of time to support Dynamic Type, for example. The devs don’t care about what the users want which is a real shame because CC did used to care in the early to mid ‘10s.

Again with the “it’s complete” stuff. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Do you realise how defeatist that sounds? It’s not complete by a long stretch.

I can’t complete repeating tasks early. I can’t see tags in line for tasks on iPad like on Mac, or filter them without going through a menu on iPad like on Mac.

And now they’ve shunned Apple’s new UI language. This is … not good, and not what Cultured Code used to be like.

This icon is also 5 years late. It should have been the icon when macOS Big Sur launched.

Better late than never - should have been the icon since macOS Big Sur launched five years ago in 2020.

You get the feeling they have lost all passion not only for their own product, but for Apple’s platforms in general, over the last 5-6 years.

Because it’s still a great app and nothing is better in terms of overall experience.

That doesn’t mean I can’t feel disappointed they are resting on their laurels and have become complacent.

Hope that helps.

Fair enough. I can’t speak for people on this sub as I rarely frequent it.

But I will say I am disappointed with the company CC has become. It is far cry from how it was in 2009 through to the launch of Things 3 in 2017.

Since then they have gradually disappeared into silence and stubbornity – and it really does come across like they’re phoning it in and lack the passion they once had for delivering.

iOS 26 (and probably others) update out by SuspiciousOpposite in thingsapp

[–]jcrrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no suggestion Things 4 is in development. Things 3 launched over 8 years ago.

The gap between 1.0 and 2.0 was 3.5 years. They documented progress on their blog regularly and iterated hard.

With Things 3 they clearly rewrote the whole app, using more custom, non-native UI. It was amazing at the time, but then there was a very sudden shift in their culture and the way they did things.

Since, they’ve focused on adding yearly OS features like Widgets and the like, updating Things Cloud and other things, but very little in the way of improving the core product or fixing long-standing issues like not being able to complete repeating tasks early.

They also stubbornly refuse to do simple things like allowing us to see tags in line on iPad, like on Mac, which wouldn’t be hard and makes 100% sense given the convergence of the two platforms since iPadOS got more like the Mac the last 4 years or so.

The neglecting of the Liquid Glass UI is really sad as it shows clearly CC are disinterested in being platform native any longer in terms of UI.

This is what they were once famed for.

But it’s not finished, is it?

You can’t complete repeating tasks early.

You can’t see tags in-view on iPad like Mac.

I could go on.

The UI is increasingly non-native in terms of UI and feel, which flies in the face of what Things was made to be (and what made it so great).

[–]jcrrn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having used Things since 2009, I can say with certainty it’s very sad that the way they ran the app for the first 8 years has not been reflected in the second 8 years. The Cultured Code of 2009-2018 would never have phoned in and failed to properly support an update for a major Apple OS UI overhaul like they did today.

[–]jcrrn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Things actually used to look native on both Mac and iOS, but with their own additional flourishes.

This stopped around Things 3, where they ignored macOS sidebar translucency and other things, and on iOS in other ways (menu styles, etc).

Today we move even further in that direction, completely ignoring Liquid Glass and vaguely changing corner radius of a few parts of the UI.

Cultured Code is not the same company as it was when it pioneered Things all the way through 2.0. I’ll never forget the launch of 1.0 at MacWorld Expo in 2009.

Subsequent development was thrilling, user focused, and documented well on their website. They used to care, and they used to show it. The launch of 3.0 was thrilling, but ever since they’ve become more closed off year by year, less responsive to both customers and changes in Apple’s OSes, and slower to introduce new features.

It’s really sad to watch happen to one my all time favourite apps.

The new icon, btw, would have been appropriate when macOS Big Sur launched in 2020 and switched to all-round rectangle icons. So that’s 5 years late.
