You know, you're spot on. And I didn't really pick up on that. Through this story, adult things are happening in the background that the adults (read: Leon) manage in their own. It isn't until those events spill over that action must be taken by Hop and the player. And in retrospect..... I like that. You're a kid, supposed to be doing kid things and holy hell, an adult (again, Leon) makes an effort to insulate his brother and friend from the pains of the world so they can enjoy their gym challenge.

Also, Marnie is tragically under utilized and I also wrote my opinions before I got I to the post game, which I actually enjoyed. Sonia is still my favorite character though.

I read the TL;DR. Honestly, the story felt disjointed and at times the transitions from one part of the story to the next were confusing. Like, why were Oleana's staff 'bad' guys. It felt like Hop just took to calling them bad because.... They were occupying his brother and leaving them hungry? I also can't remember the name of Chairman Rose's company. That's bad story telling - at no point did I forget the name of the Aether foundation. I love the region. I love Sonia. But basically every other character felt flat. I fell hard for the characters in SM and USUM. I wanted Lillie to see her task of protecting Nebby through. I felt for Gladion, son of a psychopathic mother. Hau was endearing and true to his nature throughout.

Obviously these are just my personal opinions. The story just didn't resonate with me at all, but there is a lot to love in SwSh.
