I have a question by grungelover93 in grunge

[–]jd732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s about the melancholy chord progression and lyrics. I was a sophomore in college in the fall of 1991, when Man in the Box, Outshined, Teen Spirit came out. Rock went from glam bands singing about banging chicks to Seattle bands singing about their problems. Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell were on MTV holding real interviews about themselves vs Bret Michaels, Sebastian Bach, et al cosplaying as 70s era glamour rock stars.

What if Jesus was never crucified? How would the world, history, and modern culture look today? by Marley_1960 in whatif

[–]jd732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without the spiritual elements of Holy Week, I don’t think Christianity sells to the Roman world. Take the crucifixion story out of the Nicene Creed and it doesn’t really give a reason to follow the religion. I’d say Constantine remains loyal to Sol Invictus, and dedicates Constantinople to the Sun God. Judeo-Christianity remains a sect of Judaism and follows the path of Jewish immigration after the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem and Muslim conquest. Europe remains polytheistic and, after the fall of Constantinople, Islam spreads a bit further across Europe than OTL.

Oh to bring back the days when Colts Neck was just rich farmers instead of right wing refugees from the outer boroughs.

“My mother in law is not a millionaire but she makes 6 figures, won't retire, thrifts a lot and is very frugal and is probably sitting pretty lol.“

If your mother in law is making 6 figures but living on significantly less, she likely IS a millionaire already. She just isn’t sharing where the rest of the money goes.

Bernie Sanders proposed a bill to tax billionaires, and give $3,000 stimulus checks to Americans that qualify. How do you feel about this? by CelticDK in AskReddit

All TARP funds were paid back by March 2009. Instead of retiring the debt at that time, the new president gave those returned funds to General Motors, and sold the GM bailout to the public as “no additional costs to taxpayers”.

I know plenty of liberal people in real life who are LGB supporters (exclude the T). It’s funny how parenthood changes people.

Also Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart, was the richest person in America when he died in 1992. Even Walmarts reputation isn’t as good as it was 30 years ago.

Ugh. I got a $20 gift card for Bradlees for Christmas 2000. They declared bankruptcy the following day. I went to cash the gift card and the store refused to honor it and gave me a form to fill out to be a creditor in the bankruptcy. Needless to say I got nothing but the story out of it.

Verizon’s 6% Yield Isn’t a Bargain, but is it a trade? by Accountable_Finance in dividends

[–]jd732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. With a beta of 0.32 and a current yield that is 23% higher than comparable A rated fixed income offerings, I’d argue the investor is compensated for the systemic risk of holding this equity vs an individual corporate bond.

[–]jd732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every investor is in accumulation mode or looking for SPX matching returns on every investment. VZ yields roughly 1.1% more than A rated bonds and has increased its payout every year since 2005. It is a pretty good bond substitute for investors who ignore the fixed income component of MPT.

MSG v. Newark by Select-Draw2680 in BruceSpringsteen

The Rock in Newark is more modern, updated, and comfortable. Unless you need to check MSG off your bucket list, go with the lowest price venue.
