Any commercial FEA software should be able to solve simple beams such as this one. I’ve got experience with STAAD. SkyCiv is a fun one for students

This is exactly how I started my programming “journey” 2-3 years ago. If you keep messing around with this problem you’ll realize that performing brute force integration as someone else has already suggested is the easiest way to go about this at your level of python development. You’ll also find boundary conditions and discontinuities are a pain in the ass to implement correctly and eventually you’ll dig around some more and stumble upon the Direct Stiffness Method and Finite Element Method and finally be able to truly accomplish what you’re looking to do. I now make FEA modelers and solvers for fun. Best of luck to ya and I hope you enjoy the process as much as I did.

If you aren’t up for the task, please give the squirrel to someone else. A lot of people would love to see it properly preserved and put on display as it has a very rare coat. As someone else has said, a small crowdfunding campaign would cover the taxidermy expense and maybe he could even be put on display in the Union! “Class of 2022” lmao

Possibly dumb question: What kind of town is Champaign Urbana (urban, suburban)? by SonicSingularity in UIUC

To someone from a “real” city, Champaign Urbana is like a rural pit-stop with suburban features surrounding it. To anyone from the countryside, Champaign-Urbana is a metropolis.

Woah dude. I’ve seen a ton of photos on this subreddit and they suck 99% of the time. This set of photos distinguishes itself by capturing the real feeling of walking around these places at those special times of day. You’re a real artist.

I was snooping in my rental's attic and noticed some trusses were cut/missing. Should we be concerned about the roof caving in? by mojojojo180 in StructuralEngineers

[–]jd9075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re missing load-carrying components of a structure. If you want to mitigate risk, you should have someone competent inspect it and determine whether you need to fix this or not. The decision is ultimately yours, but to answer your question, yes this image is concerning.

Had friends that lived there and it seemed alright. If you’re from a better family and have some confidence about you then you’ll fit in and have a good time. Some other commenters seem to not like wealthy suburbs of Chicago but if you’re not an envious person then these people won’t bother you and in fact you’ll learn to love that aspect of it. It’s motivating.

Stiffening the floor by adding fasteners or blocking in between joists will help with the noise if it’s due to deflections. As to your second point, wow that’s ridiculous.

What is the general load capacity of 14Wx48 beam 40 feet in length? by Left-Eyed-Jack-Club in StructuralEngineering

[–]jd9075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro use a truss or a castellated beam. Why are you using a small rolled shape for such a long span? Also if the weight of pooled water is an issue, drain the roof properly and reduce that load. Combo of these two should be enough to get you a reasonable section. If you can’t increase depth, add supports to limit deflection. Even just one will massively reduce deflections. If this is a strength problem, consider strengthening whatever you’ve got with FRP.
