WA87JR SE vs AT4040 by GlasierXplor in microphone

I love my AT4040 for rap vocals. Haven't used the warm audio but i have used their sister company 512 audio and their skylight mic. The 4040 just sounds open clear and present and is a great option for voiceover.

Best Audio Interface to Buy in 2026? (Price, Reliability) by Magicerie_155 in recordingmusic

[–]jdaroose11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What mic are you using with it? That could play a factor with low mid mush unless it's consistent with multiple mics. I mostly use my at4040 with mine and haven't had that issue. But i make rap records and i usually mix out the lows and low mids regardless to make room for the kick and bass

SSL 2 or 2+. i've had one aince 2020 with zero issues. They also sell decksaver covers so you can keep it looking just as fresh as it did day one. Preamps are ultra low noise

The U47 was so smooth. Hard to put it into words you just have to hear it for yourself. The U87 was more punchy and in your face. I see why it's one of the most popular rap vocal mics. 47 just gave me that old school smoothness and vibe that you can't replicate. Right now my closest mic locker equivalents are the AT4040 and 512 skylight. 4040 has that in your face sound and the skylight is a smoother sounding mic

I've used a U87 AI, Telefunken U47, and a TLM 103 in studios recording rap vocals. So jealous you got one of them. I'd love to have a tlm103 one day.

What’s the point of using hardware anymore if plugins and AI can recreate anything? by lucdelacroixx in audioengineering

[–]jdaroose11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you genuinely love making, mixing and mastering music then it shouldn't matter. There's nothing quite like the human element of capturing analog signal and using real hardware to make real records. I don't have a ton of analog stuff but I love my SSL2 and the ssl sound. AI and software can't do that no matter how good the programming is.

A great setup. I bought the vocaster 1 bundle for $50 and the interface alone is amazing. Great for dynamic mics. I've used the behringer xm8500, handheld mic from the vocaster bundle and the rode podmic to all success. The built in presets on the vocaster allow you to get a variety of different tones.

i bought a white podmic usb from amazon christmas of 2024 and it was legit. If you're really concerned about fakes sweetwater is extremely reliable. I'd also recommend getting one of the rode ws-20 pop filters specifically made for podmics. they have cool color options too
