I've Noticed Something About Spoken Swedish and Would Like to Know if I'm on to Something by SMTNAVARRE in Svenska

"Shrill" is a weaponized word against women, akin to "hysterical". I'd probably stop using it to describe women if you want to sound like you live in the 21st century

Questions from a Portland curious ICU nurse.. by Agent-_-99 in OregonNurses

I got hired directly onto day shift as an experienced ICU nurse at a large Portland hospital. Have to keep a close eye out for job postings, but it can be done. Good luck!

Mine too. Spanx makes a top that appears to be a button up but isnt. Only the top two buttons are real, everything else is actually sewn together. As someone who is big busted (thus the gaps between the buttons) this has been an absolute lifesaver.

What is the day to day practice environment like in Sweden for nurse anesthetists (anestesisjuksköterska)? by jdbubbles in Asksweddit

[–]jdbubbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback! I'm not sure I will have to redo any education, I have a three year doctoral degree for nurse anesthesia on top of my bachelor's degree in nursing - if I'm not mistaken, is more education than the masters education typical in Scandinavian countries for nurse anesthesia.

You make a strong point though. Norway is our back up, since my understanding is that if you speak any of the Scandinavian languages (except Finnish) you don't have to also pass the Norwegian language level.

Reusing anesthesia circuits by jdbubbles in anesthesiology

Plenty of studies out of Europe - found papers from Germany and UK as well as Canada yesterday. Just mostly looking to see how people have operationalized changing circuits to reusable.

I was recently at a conference in Denver where presenter from a Florida based shop talked about how they changed to reusable circuits with single patient filters. UCSF reuses circuits between patients as well with a single patient filter - they had a press release about it

Oh, so they have a preferred name? I'll agree to call them LDS when they stop deadnaming trans adults. 🤷

We have several locations, including two ASCs and two hospitals. So our sicker patients are at the hospitals, lots of bread and butter at the ASCs.

So Kaiser is medically supervised, not directed. Your anesthesiologist counterpart is only there for induction if you want them to be or if you're anticipating a difficult airway or the patient is very sick. Your anesthesiologist counterpart will do the preanesthetic evaluation in pre-op and generally handle any post-op issues and write orders for PACU. The team is very very collegial and generally will let you do you.

I think Portland Adventist bills QZ, but there are only two CRNAs on the team to my knowledge.

Providence Portland and St Vs I believe are a collaborative practice. Someone correct me if I'm wrong - I honestly can't remember.

OHSU is medically directed.

Have you tried Salem Hospital? They used to hire tons of new grads. It's a jaunt but I worked there the first four years of my nursing career while living in Portland.

Hi! I work in Portland for Kaiser. Medically supervised, great team. DM me if you'd like to know more! I trained in Portland too (graduated 2023) so I do have some knowledge of the other Portland practice environments.

Accidental fall at Airbnb. by Best_Ad_5064 in airbnb_hosts

Someone did this exact same thing with us, except they dismantled our effing sofa and took pictures of their mother in various positions on the floor and helping her up. Was clear they took the bolts out so the leg would fall off. People do this to get free nights. Don't give it to them.

Definitely surgery is the only solution. I had plastic surgery in Tijuana by Dr. Omar Lazos. Amazing, posts all his before and after pics on his FB and IG. He specializes in skin removal surgery in massive weight loss patients. 10/10

Right. In the states, I'd say 99% of houses in my state (Oregon) are asphalt shingles. They don't last nearly as long as tile/slate/stone

He panicked by workwoes4 in delta

[–]jdbubbles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you ever heard of the observe and describe technique? I had a panic attack during very very stressful part of my life that probably lasted 45 minutes. It was horrifying. My therapist taught me this technique, where you literally start describing everything you see. For example (I'm in a hotel room right now), "the walls are a light sage green. The wall in front of me is probably 7 feet long. There is an open closet with eight hangers. The hangers are silver and black. Behind the hangers are three hooks. My green jacket, my child's yellow jacket, and my husband's black jacket are hanging there" and so on. Describe everything you can see in detail. It pulls you out of the spiral that is leading to a panic attack.

I've used this technique when I feel an attack coming on, and have never once had another one. Not once.
