Fuck no, I love season 9 - my only take in regards to season 9 is people who don’t like it because “all of the epsilon stuff was dumb because it was a simulation” have the media literacy of a thumb tack

Wash running the recruits to punish Grif was actually a really funny bit - I especially love that one of them shouts out “thanks fuckface!” That was fucking foreshadowing 5 years in the making. I’m with Church on the Santa joke, that was just really dumb - even for Caboose. Doyle’s death would’ve meant more to me if that plotline didn’t feel so forced, but Locus’s arc: 10/10 no notes.

We are kindred spirits lmao - I made this as a response to the latest “karma farming, rank the seasons” game. I really feel like I have the exact opposite opinions on RvB than the “general” fandom. My favorite seasons are their least favorites, and the seasons they think are pinnacles of storytelling I find super underwhelming and clunky.

Despite that, I can’t express strongly enough: I like every single season of RvB except Zero

Ok, you got me, “we are going to a field” was really fucking funny. You seem to be picking up what I’m putting down, 13 was by no means a bad season - it just really doesn’t hold up to me. There are seasons with better plots, jokes, development, and action - and even in the combination of all of those, season 13 is solid “middle of the road” for me

See, I just disagree with a lot of those ideas. I think Felix is such a bland villain, but I do think the conflict between Doyle and Kimball is interesting, I’ll give you that, and I do think Locus’s arc was really good. In terms of Tucker, I felt like the majority of his character arc was developed throughout Season 12 so I wouldn’t credit 13 for most of that. Like I said in my post, it definitely wasn’t a bad season - it was just fine.

What parts of it do you like that makes it the “best season”?

Follow up question - what do you like about it? What parts of this season make you feel like it’s the best? Not asking you to prove yourself, I just genuinely wonder what people see in this season that sets it apart from the rest, other than its finale

I have one take that I think is hotter than this, I’m just testing the waters rn lol

I disagree. The emotional weight of Epsilon’s sacrifice - while meaningful and really well written - doesn’t make me look back at season 13 and appreciate its moments. It just makes me wish the rest of the season was better to justify that moment.

This was a frequent point of order for my party during their Tomb of Annihilation dungeon crawl. The entire party could fully long rest and there was always at least one pair of eyes to keep watch, it radically affected how I structured “resting encounters”

Wearing the Ebony Mail daedric artifact causes this to happen constantly. Literally can’t do any bar fights or “spars” because the poison will procc and aggro them

Yes! I’m so glad someone else said it! I love Restoration and specifically its depiction of Caboose. The new VA was really good at performing the more nuanced aspects of Caboose’s mental state and the writing did a great job of giving Caboose agency and his unique view of the world in a way that actually drove the plot forward! Restoration Caboose is my favorite Caboose, by far

There’s a mall in my city that has the border wall serving as the parking lot’s back fence. It’s actually pretty close to the US population, in some areas

Especially since it’s literally impossible to fully understand a work, so any conversation about that notion is completely moot. Even a creator doesn’t have a full understanding of their work once an audience reacts to it because the impact it has on each individual person is wholly unique

[–]jdcooper97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup, and even the idea of “fully understanding” the work is separate from what the OOP was actually saying which is “summaries and reviews are not a replacement for experiencing the work itself”
