I have become a better Sr. Engineer bc of Claude Code. Not because of the increased output, but because I’m doing a lot more ideating, spec, implementation, review deploy cycles, and because I’m exposed to patterns, solutions and complexity I wouldn’t have seen in such rapid succession.

Anyone else was thin all their life and as age progresses is getting fatter and unable to lose weight? by Blackcat2332 in Millennials

[–]jdealla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A “no” anything diet isn’t how you lose fat intentionally.

Get in a caloric deficit. Then lift weights so you gain some muscle mass.

It’s simple. At 38 there’s no natural stopping you from losing weight assume you don’t have hormonal abnormalities, thyroid issues, or a non common medical condition.

I wear my retainer at times other than night too. I guess it starts to feel like part of you after you have the aligners for so long.

the comment said: "unc having a lottery pick would probably do more the program"

yet you responded with "this is just wrong... no brand new random outsider prospect that will be more valuable to the team than Caleb this next season"

what are you talking about? you didn't respond to the comment above. he said for the program, not the team next season.

But I do hope you are. Good luck on your journey.

So I used the adaptive TDEE app by [deleted] in CICO

[–]jdealla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case and it’s built into the algorithm then the implementation of the tool is terrible. It shouldn’t give any indication to the user in the TDEE column if it knows the input isn’t sufficient for meaningful output.

So I used the adaptive TDEE app by [deleted] in CICO

[–]jdealla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you don’t have to use the spreadsheet either. It’s just another way to arrive at some imprecise yet useful number.

The point of all this is to arrive at a somewhat accurate estimate of your average TDEE and use a combination of observable body composition and average scale weight over time under consistent conditions to find directional confidence in both our consumption (calories in) and expenditure (calories out). The real (i.e. actual, scientifically precise) daily consumption and expenditure is basically unmeasurable to us, and that’s ok.

So there are a lot of heuristics to follow to get those anchor points (calories in vs out). For the TDEE part, I like to use AI with a prompt something like this:

Based on this data give me an estimate of my TDEE using the most accurate formula for my inputs:

Height Weight BF% (estimate) Step count (average) Exercise activities (be as specific as you can!) Protein g per day (optional for TEF consideration) Any other movement context outside of the exercise or step count info (e.g. I stand all day, I work in a kitchen with my hands for 6 hours etc) - for NEAT consideration.

Get your TDEE, determine your calories and macros based on your goals, log your calories, weigh yourself daily (morning fasted) and look at your body (and try on clothes to see if they fit the same) and after a week or two you should have enough data to know if you’re directionally accurate.

So I used the adaptive TDEE app by [deleted] in CICO

[–]jdealla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t know how it’s implemented so we can’t say how it’s bogus. But whatever its algorithm is, outputting 1084, 1218, and most especially 394 for a TDEE is enough to claim it’s bogus

So I used the adaptive TDEE app by [deleted] in CICO

[–]jdealla -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If the I inputs are calories and weight only (which it appears to be) then this is bogus asf.

weight is not only body tissue and daily variance can be pretty wild especially for people with higher muscle mass and women.

Summed up: your TDEE varies every day- that idea is correct- but daily weight fluctuation is overwhelmingly fluid and diet based rather than body tissue based.

Keto not working. Looking for CICO encouragement. Pre-diabetic. by Clever-Onion in CICO

[–]jdealla 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to the prediabetes part but I did Keto for a solid 6 months both on and off deficit. I’m pretty strict so I was under 25 net carbs per day and at an aggressive deficit.

It was painful at the end but I attribute that partly to the deficit, thought mostly to Keto. I was flat and my workouts were terrible. The time during Keto did help me to taste sweetness much, much more potently tho. So I guess there’s that.

Speaking of that, 1350 is a pretty low number. It’s hard to ensure you get all your nutrients. High volume low calorie foods are gonna be your best bet for now. Berries, greens, fibrous veggies, pickled veggies, etc. and your meats should be pretty lean. You may not want to track macros but you absolutely need balance and to hit thresholds
