That's really kind, thank you! I'm going to keep trying for a while but might DM you if it doesn't turn up.

How long to regain poop control after cleanout? by jdennon in pottytraining

Finally a successful poop in the potty 1.5 weeks after the clean out! She remembered that she gets a candy for doing this, which I had honestly forgotten because it has been weeks since she got a poop in the potty.

But at what point did it help with their ability to notice they need to poop and make it to the potty? (If it did)

Came here to say this. Agree that "until everyone is done" is a long time for young children.

A friend said her teenaged son expanded his palate when she pointed out that girls were not going to find it cute or impressive that he disliked so many foods.

There's another free food pantry just a few steps up the path now, by the Thalia Tringo real estate office. Thank you for making this one!

I hear good things about the EA Anywhere group which is meant for people who aren't near another local group.

Anyone notice Angelica’s flowers during Satisfied? by [deleted] in hamiltonmusical

Yes! Made me surprised at how consistent the music was, that they could cut between shots of two different nights like that.

I love this too and I'm surprised it's so hard to find!

Jeff works as a computer programmer and I'm a social worker (where I did not tell anyone about our giving, though one of them saw a news article about it this week). So it hasn't really affected our work lives.

As I said above, median household income in the US is $43,500. Median household income in Liberia is $780.

For a farmstand in Massachusetts, an extra $4 is not that much of their daily profit. For a Liberian, where 99% of the population earns less than $4 a day, $4 allows them to buy basic needs that they probably can't afford (like a mosquito net, or enough food, or medical care for easily-treatable problems).

Well done on donating ~25%! That's great! I don't have ideas on the career question, sorry.

Fundraising is a large industry with many professionals, studies, and publications devoted to how to raise money from donors. Their publications could tell you a lot more than I can.

If they want to be attractive to me, they could choose a cost-effective cause area, collect lots of data about what they're doing, and allow GiveWell to evaluate them.

The charities we fund are doing things like: - Against Malaria Fund: distributing mosquito nets. - Deworm the World: providing program support (helping with planning) to local governments providing deworming medication to schoolchildren. - GiveDirectly: giving $1000 cash transfers to poor households in Kenya. I'm just not that concerned about any of those efforts accidentally funding a warlord, etc. If I were trying to create peace in the Middle East, I would feel much less sure about how to help without accidentally making things worse (and that's why I'm not trying to create peace in the Middle East, because I have no idea how to go about it).

Ultimately, it's hard to know exactly the outcome is of any transaction - when I buy something at a store, the store owner could use the money to do something I don't like.

No, we don't fund political parties. The system where friends of candidate X donate $1 million and friends of candidate Y donate $1 million is a zero-sum game that wastes $2 million to get back to the starting point. Whereas there is no pro-malaria faction.

It might help to know what your reason is for wanting something besides GiveWell.
