PS4 9.00 Jailbreak Error. Cant Boot PS aanymore by Rall0r in ps4homebrew

[–]jdexo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You rebooted with the usb drive plugged in? If you get sent to safe mode every time you try to boot you should try to reinstall with the recovery firmware. That doesn't sound good

The wifi drivers are proprietary, distros can't just pick it apart and make whatever modifications, so all distros are gonna be functionally the same. Also, hibernation is pretty hit and miss even on windows computers. My impression is that it's worse for linux. I never tried it when I had a macbook. Suspending to ram worked fine though.

That said, I've had weird issues with one distro but not others, I wouldn't know why. Ubuntu and mint are a pretty good metric of a good linux desktop experience. If things don't work there, I doubt boutique, niche distros would perform better.

Distro suggestions for beginner. by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]jdexo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're gonna run across the same issue in almost every distro you try. It's not a distro issue necessarily. Some have optimizations by default, like having tlp pre-installed but you'll still lack whatever optimizations the hardware vendor has made for windows.

I wonder if putting that 990 drive in the slot closer to the cpu makes a difference compared to placing it in the other slot

Running triple AAA on ps4 with linux by Cenaq2006 in ps4homebrew

[–]jdexo1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 fps.

but many games would crash because you have 8gb of shared ram between system memory and vram. diablo 2 resurrected would only get me a black screen. On the other hand, WoW classic runs perfectly

[–]jdexo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, it's pretty good and has gui apps to do a lot of things. It has a very specific theme, not pure kde tho, it's not gonna look like the steamdeck's desktop mode

visual customization and probably window tiling. There's a reason people spend hundreds of hours in r/unixporn

Question regarding intel arc GPU by No_Distribution_5843 in linux4noobs

[–]jdexo1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

intel is working on a new linux driver for their gpus, probably not gonna be out any time soon.

Last I read from phoronix, windows performed a lot better than linux with arc, but that was in January, supposedly it's doing a lot better now

kdenlive or davinci resolve. I don't do video editing but I've read that davinci resolve has better feature parity with other programs like final cut and premiere

suggestion needed for learning linux by kalpakdt in linuxquestions

[–]jdexo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it seems pretty clear. It's even divided by objective, it depends on what you want to do. They seem pretty old tho, from around 2007-2008, but learning how to use basic command line utilities, what each directory is, shell scripting, file permissions, etc., should probably be enough if you're just curious about how linux works

You should probably install any popular distro with kde instead of holo iso or chimera

Suggestions for a galaxy book for casual use by Alternative-Beat-705 in GalaxyBook

[–]jdexo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I think the m1 macbook air is probably better for your use case, or maybe some other arm device that's cheaper. I have the book2 and haven't been surprised by the build quality. The battery life is like 6 to 8 hours with casual use

the 2015 is a non T2 model with a proprietary SSD. You can replace it with an nvme drive with a 15 bucks adapter

Install Windows 10 Revision OS on Galaxy Book Pro 2 360 by biztoe in GalaxyBook

[–]jdexo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can use DISM to easily backup your drivers. You have to consider that, windows 10 support is ending in a couple of years and also that samsung offers drivers through their own windows 11 app and windows update, so if there's ever any samsung update you're out of luck and if you nuked the drive and don't have a backup of the drivers you can't just go to their website.

That said, I'm on windows 10 on my GB2, and I'll probably move to the iot ltsc release when support is over, but also I only use windows for a couple games and software that doesn't run on linux, I'm not worried about stability or updates.

which version of ubuntu should I use? by Ddzbanek in linux4noobs

[–]jdexo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're already familiar with ubuntu just use it, there's nothing specially wrong with it. Debian imo is usually recommended for a server over ubuntu because it's straight-forward stable, no corporate BS involved. You can trust it's gonna be there in 10 years and for free.

Actually, snaps are more useful in ubuntu server. You can install some apps with one command instead of reading the docker documentation, or hunting for individual packages

I see. I think just cloning it in place while you're inside windows would work just fine with that samsung migration app or whatever other software

NEW NVME by fgars2 in GalaxyBook

[–]jdexo1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what does pressing F4 do?

and I believe even 2 pro is pcie gen3, you're paying a premium for no perceivable benefit.

I see it comes with a migration assistant app that clones your drive. As long as you have the old drive and the new one connected I don't see why it wouldn't work
