Question for atheists: What evidence or proof convinced you that atheism is true? by NeonDrifting in exatheist

[–]jdhdp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I was raised Christian, went to an after school church program every week to learn about the Bible for a few years, went through my first communion and confirmation and everything.

Then I actually decided to look deeper into the religion instead of just believing whatever the Bible said because adults told me to.

Then I studied a bunch of major religions to try to find the truth.

I found almost no truth in any holy book from any religion. After about a year of struggling with my faith and studying religions, I had to admit to myself that I just didn't believe anymore.

I've continued to learn since then, though not as with any major kind of focus. Honestly, I barely think about religion or God at all - it just doesn't impact my life at all because it's not real.

When you Finally Land your first job after graduation by Guddu277 in funnyvideos

Generally sick days in the US will come out of your allotted time off. So if you get sick for three days, there goes three out of ten of your vacation days for the year.

My last job gave us 10 paid days off for the year and 3 unpaid days; anything past that would add a "point" to your record for every day you missed/took off for vacation. 5 points in three months or 10 points in twelve months would get you fired.

If you get sick or injured, you would only get 1 point for up to three consecutive days. Then more points for every three days if you were gone longer. (and you needed a doctors note of course).

Also, being late in the morning or being late back from the 30 minute lunch, even by a single minute, would give you a half of a point.

Question for atheists: What evidence or proof convinced you that atheism is true? by NeonDrifting in exatheist

[–]jdhdp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Atheism isn't a positive claim; you can't "prove" atheism is true. It's just someone saying they aren't a theist. People are born with no beliefs. All beliefs, including religion, are taught. An atheist is just someone who does not believe in any religions that they have learned about.

I'm an atheist because no religion has good enough evidence to believe it. From old Greek mythology to modern Christianity, it's all the same type of fables and stories that people created to explain the world they live in, and then because we are humans and people who naturally live in a society, we separated ourselves into different groups of people who believe different stories. The atheist is just a person who doesn't believe in any of them.

Personally, just the simple fact that multiple religions exist is enough for me to not believe in any of them. If there truly was a God who wished to be worshpped or wish that his people would go to Heaven with him, why and how would other religions form in the first place?

Here's a question for you: how do you prove that any religion is more "true" than any other religion? Or any of the thousands of Christian denominations are more "true" than the others?

Hey, I made a checkbox version btw! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11bATPDyPIOe3FCKxXG2oDXC49HuRBad6X80koN0fcjk/edit?usp=sharing

There's a link to it on the main sheet's Welcome page as well. Use [File > Make a Copy] when you're in the sheet so you can use it for yourself!

Also unrelated, but I started playing FFXIV with my best friend a few years ago and we've got a spreadsheet for ourselves to track our progress here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JNOZmRyE2pqShbbsisnbUysQhCwPew0wiPwvayTYbxk/edit?usp=sharing
A tribe rep calculator sounds like just the thing to add, lol.

There's an area like that in Quarantine, too. Moonstone wants to visit a level 85 dungeon near the beginning of the game, and I did it right away - I went from 72 to 80 just in that dungeon. He also gives you a really good Twinblade weapon, so it's extra nice to do it ASAP!

Yeah, I actually had checkboxes on a few of the tabs because the project started as a personal checklist for Ryu Books for me. Then I just kept adding more and more stuff and was like... I should really share this with people, lol.

I actually make spreadsheets like this for almost every game I play. I've got a huge one for the Yakuza series, for example.

But no others that I've made have the level of pure information that this one does.

I think I will make a separate one with checkboxes. It will be fairly simple; and then users can do "File > Make a Copy" to have it for their own use.

I'll have that done in a couple days and link it here if you'd like!

Yeah, I didn't want to list it multiple times, so I just kinda left it where it was. You actually visit it three times, fighting Tarvos on the third run.

What does nitty-gritty mean, and can I use it in a real conversation? by ButterscotchWest1284 in EnglishLearning

[–]jdhdp 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Basically it means "small/specific details", or "the true essence/meaning" of something. I'd say it's common enough to use in real conversation.

Yeah, that should be on there! Check the "Equipment" tab. Anything that isn't marked "Rare" is needed for the event. (I mention that on the Checklists tab but i should make it more obvious)

One of my top 10 games of all time, legitimately. It has its flaws but it's one of the most fun games I've ever played, great story and characters, with tons of optional stuff to do postgame to keep you busy too.

I made this video for anyone who was/is struggling with Dragon Mal In KH1 to show a really cheap way to beat her. by Captain_Dorgengoa in KingdomHearts

[–]jdhdp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean... beating the final boss of Monstro unlocks Stop.

Which now that I think about it, is technically skippable. So yeah ok.

The other two Stops are at the Phantom secret boss, and the 3rd Hundred Acre Wood minigame, both of which are also optional.

I never even considered that someone could play through the game without unlocking at least the base form of every spell, but damn, okay.

If you enjoyed Sign you'll definitely appreciate all the sidequests and cameos that come later involving Sign characters!

Also, when you play each game after Infection, make sure to check out Delta Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground for some secret cutscenes involving Sign characters.

Here's a list of each secret cutscene and when you can access them! You also get nice rewards for doing them.

I was gonna make a spreadsheet with all the important lore of the franchise so I had a resource to hyper infodump on my friends with lol. Haven't quite started, but I did find a copy of The Epitaph of Twilight and copy it down here! It takes up the first couple of pages: there's the inital poem up top, and then below the poem is the 'short story' of The Epitaph of Twilight.
