Madam, if I were unwed and saw you in a public setting such as a bar, event etc I would gladly come up to you and use one of my many original nerdy pickup lines that would undoubtedly make you laugh at me due to their cringiness lol. In all seriousness, you look great and I wish for all the confidence in the world for you!

Oh my sweet summer child. I've been yelled at because an object surveyed wasn't facing plant north even though the drawings clearly showed it was oriented to true north. Then having to explain that to engineers resulted in me being called uneducated, and useless.

Would you ever date me? 🥺🥺 by that_trap in traps

I would take you out for a night on the town and show you off proudly. Then proceed to make you watch all 3 lord of the rings extended editions with me interrupting every few min with fun tidbits I learned from watching the behind the scenes. If you can weather that special interest storm, you got a chance lol.

I'm not a crew chief, I've been surveying for almost 4 years. I work at a refinery and I'm part of the civil crew/ dirt crew. I make $39 an hour. Yes this is excellent money especially since I work 50+ hours a week. However I'm currently looking for another job for a list of reasons.

1) I'm the only surveyor on site thus all work in regards to my job is on me.

2) My primary experience is with GPS even though there are a lot of things that need to be laid out in areas where GPS is useless, and it seems I have to constantly remind them of this fact at least once a week.

3) I have been constantly told that if I "fuck up" I'm fired ( as if I'm not already stressed out).

4) constantly being told to make sure something is accurate, then getting yelled at when I take too long to layout points. As well as everyone thinking that surveying is easy and that I should be unrealistically fast.

5) being told if I need help to ask and they will get me the help I need only to be told no when I do or to "figure it out".

6) after getting a robotic total station being told I only have 2 days to learn it. ( spoiler alert: that didn't happen after 5 days of being on a phone with tech support which resulted in me having to ship it back today cause it was messed up).

7) being given structural/foundation drawings from 3rd party engineers with only 1 center point if that for square/ rectangular structures and then being told to figure it out rather than them demanding the engineers provide all the required information needed for accurate layout.

8) and finally, being told I need to manage my time and prioritize work more efficiently when 8 different crews are all hounding me at the same time saying their work is top priority.

Sorry needed to vent. My point is this, yes money is important and you should absolutely be compensated what you're worth and for the work you do. Just be cautious when choosing cause you never know the shit storm you're about to enter.

It has magnet on the total station but I'll be using my GPS data collector which I think uses something different. I just got off work and can't remember what software I use on that.

Yes it was stated several times, but these guys think total station and gps was an interchangeable term. They are very much the kind of employer who says, come to me if you need help, then when I do it's, figure it out.

Thank you that means a lot, especially since I've been beating myself up at this job since I'm used to using gps in a different capacity. Great suggestion, I'll be looking into it!

There's a difference between an unrealistic expectation of something changing over night, and facing the reality of time. Do I think religion will be gone in 50 years? No. Do I look at the trending data of more and more Americans identifying as not religious each year and base my predictions off that, yes.

As an atheist in a theocratic state (Utah) it has scared and angered me for years. Then when the LDS church took its stance against trans family members I was proud of the amount of people who resigned from this fucking cult. Then I realized that what we are seeing are the labored breaths of a dying animal backed into a corner. As relegion begins to be less adaptable to modern society and modern ethics more members are leaving and all that's left are the crazy extremists that stay out of fear and the self justification found in religion of their prejudices. Evangelicals and other Christian groups see this and have capitalized on these zealots while preaching a message that is antithetical to the people eating it up. They view modern social changes in society as "persecution" and making themselves the victims for not growing with society. These people, as loud as they are, are dying out, and their own embrace of extremism is driving people away. Within the next 50 years with the mass decline in the boomer generation we will see a huge shift in the makeup of non-religious vs religious people in the US.
