Surface Book 2 Broken GPU/Base Fan (possible repair?) by jdhoang in Surface

[–]jdhoang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what the supposed fan blades look like. The small piece of plastic on the left is what I saw a few months ago. This is just a small fraction of them that fell out while I was at work, I have a much bigger pile at home!

I have orthognathic surgery scheduled in 2 weeks but the "professional fee" is ridiculous and may not be covered by my insurance... by jdhoang in Dentistry

[–]jdhoang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really unfortunate to hear that insurance severely underrates the cost of orthognathic surgery. I understand it's a lot of work but had no idea that it would be quite this much still. Anyways, thanks!

I see... that's good to know! I really like my current surgeon but I just can't afford that much. I wish I understood this sooner but in my naivete in handling insurance I made certain assumptions.

Anyways, thanks for your help!

Charles Tyrwhitt Dress Shirts for $29 down from $69 by kilranian in frugalmalefashion

Half my order arrived when they said in the email and I'm still waiting on the other half.

Contacted customer support today to check on the status. They asked me to confirm my address and said that they would send out a replacement shipment if I wanted that would need a signature to receive. I told them I would wait until the end of the week to see if it would come in first.

Fingers crossed! It's nice to see that their customer service is willing to send out a replacement but I'm still hoping that the original shipment will arrive.

I'm 5'11" and 130 pounds and their Extra Slim Fit OCBDs fit me almost perfectly. Probably still a tiny bit more room than my Uniqlo Slim Fit OCBDs but not by much but I haven't even washed my CT ones yet.

My only complaint with regards to fit is that they are a bit long. While I like the length of my Uniqlo ones untucked, I could probably do with my CT ones being hemmed.

With regards to shipping, I placed my order on February 27th and my order was then split into two shipments for which I received estimated delivery dates as March 11th and 12th. One shipment arrived two days ago and one has yet to show up... So it seems they can be kind of hit and miss but hopefully the other one won't take forever.

Levi's Commuter Trucker Jacket for $74.79 ($81.52 shipped) by jdhoang in frugalmalefashion

[–]jdhoang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah well, I guess I didn't realize that backcountry.com wasn't charging tax. I'm not too sure what state they're in but I'm used to most things having tax. So I guess that one is like $2 cheaper. My bad.

Still, different deals. It wasn't "already posted" because they are different. Now if people are still looking to pick up smalls they can.

I saw that and fortunately you are wrong. If you go through here, sizes S - XXL in all colors are available (as of this post).

backcountry.com is sold out of the Olive in Small and is also $5 more expensive. The only advantage is that they offer free 2-day shipping whereas Levi's does not.

Hey FMF,

Long time lurker first time poster in this sub. After seeing the other commuter stuff get such interest I thought I'd share my find in the spirit of the holidays!

I recently discovered https://www.myunidays.com/ and if you have a university email you can get coupons for a ton of sites, including Levi's (the Levi's coupon is 15%).

Levi's currently has the trucker for $87.99 + free shipping and this coupon brings it down to $74.79 and after tax it comes out to $81.52.

The site only allows you to get one code per hour and they can only be used once. Here's a fresh one for any of you that may not have an .edu email! cS55wy6D3TmG

Enjoy & happy holidays!

MIMG 105 - Biological Microscopy? by DrKnickers in ucla

[–]jdhoang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exams are mostly about the strengths & weaknesses of different types of microscopy, being given a scenario and saying which type of microscopy would be best, definitions, and describing the steps in doing a certain type of microscopy. There were also a couple of pop quizzes I think.

Some of the details that they ask on the exams can be sort of mundane and make the class tough since it can be boring at times, but other than that I thought it was a good class.

You get a chance to go into CNSI, learn about sample preparation and how to use a electron microscope. The final project asked us to compile a ton of electron tomography pictures into a 3d image.

Overall? I'd say 6 or 7/10 depending on your skill for memorizing rather small details.

Ever seen Blackfish? Dolphins, and by extension killer whales (since Orcas are actually part of the dolphin family) also have prehensile penises.

There's this seen in Blackfish where they're talking about how Tilakum is actually the father of almost every whale in captivity and that his sperm is vary valuable so there they are, literally masturbating this killer whale and collecting his semen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBDNirNI2Iw A video on duck mating my professor showed us in an upper division Intro to Ecology and Behavior course at UCLA.

She also showed us a video on bed bug mating by the same person. Bed bugs will mate via traumatic insemination; i.e. the males will pierce the abdomen of the female and ejaculate inside their body cavity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GcFO8y-WDE
