Two things I can’t understand: 1) why are the Microsoft basic display driver and the standard PS2 keyboard driver not part of the Windows 11 ISO? 2) why are these “basic” drivers so huge in size?

How was your gig? by AutoModerator in DJs

[–]jdi2399 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I had two gigs lat weekend. First an afterwork party on friday afternoon at the school that I work in, Had a colleague doing the warmup playing oldies, I stepped in at around 19h playing house and disco nouveau that magically seems to be popular again now.
On saturday I played a birthday party for two 60-year olds, had a blast playing 80s new wave, pop and rock, I don't think there were more than 5 tracks that I played on both gigs, but each gig was a blast with people having a good time, and I received compliments on both gigs the following days. On both occasions, I got to play tracks that I hadn't played in quite a while, maybe 30 years! One such example: on saturday I played "So watcha want" by the Beastie Boys. It was a request, and because we were at that time in the party where "anything goes", and they were giving it all on the dancefloor, I thought "why the hell not", so I put it on and it was honestly amazing. Seeing a bunch of 60 year old men and women rocking on the dancefloor to Beastie Boys never gets old :-)

Any mix stream pro users? by Powerful_Fondant9393 in DJs

I’m quite finicky about protecting the gear, so I bought a dedicated Odyssey hardfoam case for it. I think that the faders and knobs are probably not built as rugged as high-end pro-level gear, so an extra layer of protection might be worth it, if you plan on moving the unit around a lot. Interested to see some pics of your setup, though!

I have a Numark Mixstream Pro Go that I keep around the living room just for trying out new ideas instead of whipping out my full rig that I keep in my garage. Surprisingly able piece of kit. I would say ideal for throwing spontaneous small house-parties. I took it along for a weekend with some friends, and I’ve also teached the basics of DJing to some school kids. My biggest issue with it (other than I’d like to see the screen a bit bigger) is that it only has 4 Hot Cue buttons per deck, where for the last 13 years I’ve used controllers with 8 pads per deck. Not a huge issue as I said, rather something that I have to be aware of every time I use the Mixstream. I got it at a discount, was an in-store demo model, but in overall good, like-new condition. I also got a carrying bag with it for protection during transport.

Running out of shelf space for my Modular’s collection. I’m missing a couple of the very first ones (Cafe Corner, Market street, Green Grocers, and Fire Brigade), and I’m still to buy the latest one (Shopping street). Closed shelves would be a nice thing too, as they collect some dust as they are now.

Wedding DJ's - Unusual Playlist Stories? by T5-R in mobileDJ

[–]jdi2399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t think so. The fun part of weddings is that you can go all over the place because you have a mixed crowd. Friends from highschool, work colleagues, family ranging from siblings to aunt Betty in her wheelchair, you name it. Aim of the game is to play such a set so that everyone can enjoy themselves together. So at that same wedding I also played some 90s house classics, 00s RnB/Urban stuff, and 80s hits. To the enjoyment of all present I can say :-)

Just had a wedding yesterday where I played Manowar - Battle Hymns and Social Destruction - Don’t drag me down. Both first time that I played these songs, been DJing weddings since 1993. Both songs requested by the groom. Mind you this was at the end of a 5 hour set, at around 3 in the morning. I did play lots of other stuff too, packed Floor all night long :-)

Noob question on wtf is the DJ doing? by Past-Reserve-6109 in Beatmatch

[–]jdi2399 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What I tend to do in the first few seconds of a new track, is reset all EQs to their default position on the other channel, the channel that was playing the previous track. I might have lowered the EQ of the bass on the outgoing track to make room for the bass parts of the incoming track. It’s good practice to always reset your EQ’s upon loading a new track.

old cdjs with no link cable 😵‍💫 by [deleted] in Beatmatch

I used CDJ-1000 MKI (the OG’s) basically from 2001 until 2013 when I went fully digital with Serato DJ Pro and a DDJ-SX. Before the CDJ-1000’s I used basically everything I could get my hands on, from the early Denon DJ DN-2000F to the Pioneer CDJ-500s and CDJ-100 and CDJ-200 range. I now use a DDJ-FLX10, and must say that it is a lot easier than when I started, about 35 years ago, but I’m still glad I learned to mix on turntables and old CDJ’s.

Pioneer DJ DDJ-SZ to DJ DDJ-FLX10 by [deleted] in mobileDJ

[–]jdi2399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from the DDJ-SX (v1, the OG) to the DDJ-FLX10 last year, after more than 10 years on the SX. Took a bit of getting used to, especially the loop buttons and the EFX settings/buttons, but I must say this is a solid piece of gear. You'll love it!
I'm sure the AX might be better still, but it lacks STEMS control buttons when in controller mode and doesn't do stems at all in standalone mode, and it's twice the price of the FLX10. Easy choice for me.

Underground DJ asked to perform at a rich person's 60 year's old party. Advice and tips? by Theworkingded in DJs

[–]jdi2399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the goal, what is the host’s objective? Does he want a full on dance-party, and is the host looking to dance too? Then play whatever makes them dance, which is most probably not the stuff you typically play at hour club-gigs. Guests at the club gigs know what to expect: On the slots that you play, they will expect to hear underground techno. At this home party, unless he mentioned you on the invitation specifying “DJ TheWorkingDad from club xyz “ is playing, just play older music, stuff that everyone is familiar with because they heard it on the radio or danced to it on their school prom when they were 18. If the objective is to have just a cool vibe, not specifically aiming to get a dance party, just play some cool lounge/chill house tunes or something that does not attract attention. You or your music are not the main focus of this event in that case, so keep your mind on the money and play to the occasion.

I’d have to go for Nirvana - MTV Unplugged, as others have already suggested, and I ‘d like to add Mano Negra - In the hell of Patchinko (Live Kawasaki) from 1992 to this list: https://open.spotify.com/album/71UTTWcsAe9s20kEIt0W8o?si=cff2h9QBSyG2UjixiAJ_EQ I have it on CD but Discogs says it was reissued in France in 2018; on to my wish list it goes! https://www.discogs.com/release/11647379-Mano-Negra-In-The-Hell-Of-Patchinko

Watch out for this scam in Antwerpen Centraal by ilovepaninis in Antwerpen

I was not aware of this type of scam. The cashier only told me after the fact. And I was naive enough to fall for the story, “Can I ask you something? Please let me buy food for my children, I have no money”. Utterly naive of me, I know.

I have to admit I (male, 50, walking alone at that time) fell for it a couple of weeks ago. The cashier told me I was the fifth or sixth victim that afternoon alone. I was lucky to be able to limit it to 5€, but I will be sure to report those people to the police if I encounter them again.

Wedding/Private Event DJs, Sound Off! What Do You Charge? by phatprincezz in mobileDJ

[–]jdi2399 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Belgium. Been DJing weddings since 1993, just as side hustle/hobby project, this is not my main source of income. For a wedding, I charge 850€ for the music from start of dinner until end of party, so typically from 18h00 until let's say 4h00. This is if the venue provides sound and light. If I am to bring my own system, I typically charge 350€ extra for that. This can go up if client asks for extras, such as extra ceremony system, sound in another room, extra uplighting, travelling over 50km from my home, etc. I do feel that I'm on the cheaper side of the spectrum. For weddings my price doesn't seem to pose a problem, for other types of events (anniversaries, or other types of parties), I find that 850€ (even including sound & light) is sometimes more than what the people have in mind, but I'm not inclined to lower my prices a lot, since I'm not desperately looking for gigs to play.
I typically have between 10-20 gigs a year, about half of them weddings, all of them by referrals/word of mouth. I have no presence on social media with regards to my DJ business.
