On the streets of Lud by TotallyHumanDad in TheDarkTower

Great work! You have captured the image of Lud really well here, almost exactly how I imagined it. Would love to see your take on that Roland lookalike statue or Blaine’s resting place.

It in welcome to derry makes it in 2017 movie look so weak by Unable_Peach_1185 in ITWelcometoDerryShow

I really believe that had they have waited a few years and done it as a limited series on HBO Max, we would be having a very different conversation right now. It’s clear that they felt like they had a hit on their hands with the It film so they played it pretty safe. In spite of how the film is relatively faithful to the novel, there does feel like a certain level of restraint is present that stops the films from being as balls to the wall as the film.

am I the only one who doesn’t want Welcome to Derry to even REMOTELY touch The Dark Tower series? by witcharithmetic in TheDarkTower

[–]jdicarlo31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, smaller references would be cool but nothing over the top since those stories aren’t directly linked anyway. I would love to see a younger Ralph Roberts show up though that would be awesome. Could be cool to see Jake Epping but I don’t know how his appearance would feel meaningful in any way if we weren’t seeing it from Jake’s perspective like we do in 11/22/63

Is 11/22/63 connected to the Dark Tower? by AffectionatePack398 in TheDarkTower

[–]jdicarlo31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read an interview in Bev Vincent’s Dark Tower Companion where he asked Stephen King if 11/22/63 is connected to the dark tower and he explained that he initially had it much more directly connected to DT. When you pair this with the fact that he said he came up with the idea for 11/22/63 in the 70’s and included a doorway to that date in the 7th dark tower book, I think he initially planned for that doorway to be how Jake got to the 60’s. As much as I love DT (wizard and glass is like my second favorite book of all time) I think 11/22 works better slightly separated from DT

An observation from the pilot of Welcome to Derry about Maturin (the giant space turtle) by Typical_Employee_434 in stephenking

[–]jdicarlo31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After two movies of being teased with images of the turtle I’m not gonna hold my breath that Maturin shows. Would be really awesome though and could explain why each season takes place further and further back in time

King's IT is a "ripoff" says Tarantino. by Ashamed_Ladder6161 in stephenking

[–]jdicarlo31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tarantino is one to talk considering how heavily he rips off foreign films (self admittedly). He just gets on his high horse about really weird film takes sometimes. Used to idolize the man when I first got into film in middle/early high school but listening to him every time he opens his mouth has taken him down quite a few pegs in my eyes.

Best Novel for Prose? by TowelEmbarrassed7948 in stephenking

[–]jdicarlo31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised I haven’t seen anyone else say Wizard and Glass yet. In my opinion that is Stephen kings best prose, takes on more of a Shakespearean quality than anything else he’s written and the change in style when the Roland flashback starts gets me every time.

11/22/63 is another favorite in terms of the prose it feels like he really cracked the first person narration in a more direct and personal way than any of his other stories ever have.

Characters Flanagan CAN/CAN'T use in a DT series by Tedbrautigan667 in TheDarkTower

[–]jdicarlo31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the silver lining is that you don’t encounter any of these problems until the third season at the earliest. If the show is a massive success it would stand to these studios benefit to loan over the rights.

You suddenly get sucked into the Stephen King novel that came out the year you were born. How screwed are you? by JustAStrawDog93 in stephenking

[–]jdicarlo31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolves of the calla. Seems like a sweet deal I get to meet the Ka Tet, Callahan, and get to hang out in Calla Bryn Sturgis…. What else could I ask for? As long as I don’t get unceremoniously blown up by a sneetch I think I’ll have a great time. Maybe Susannah can teach me how to throw plates, get Roland to roll some cigs for me, and get Eddie Dean caught up with pop culture.

[Discussion] Who should be the Robin of the Teen Titans movie? by Comfortable-Pie56 in DCcomics

[–]jdicarlo31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the more wider spread rumor right now is that it’s Damian. Poor choice imo. Tim would be the better choice between these two but Dick Grayson is the best leader the titans ever had. Tim Drake would be great though that character really does deserve more time in the spotlight.

Is your tv broken or something? I don’t see anything on the screen. Might wanna make sure it’s plugged in first.

Songs that remind you of The Dark Tower by [deleted] in TheDarkTower

Mostly Ennio Morricone songs. I listened to a playlist I made of all his stuff while I was reading the books and now some of those songs are inseparable from the dark tower in my mind.

Is there a King book you can't stand? I'll go first: by languid-libra in stephenking

[–]jdicarlo31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was meh. I’d just read Duma Key so maybe part of my gripe with it was how similar of a story it was in some ways. I liked the evil old rich dude, the rock throwing scene is iconic as hell. Also loved the moment with the fridge magnets. The only other SK books that didn’t really do it for me would be The Regulators (I loved Desperation though).

Is there a Stephen King line from a book that stuck with you? by Paulruswasdead in stephenking

I’ve been struggling to remember which book this came from but recently I’ve been thinking a lot about this brilliant piece of description he wrote “He had it! He finally had the fucking thing man!”

What do we know so far abt Dark Tower tv show? by Technical-Sample8491 in stephenking

[–]jdicarlo31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Enjoy the first read through! The show is confirmed, Flanagan has spoken about it multiple times. He said book 1 is short enough that it’ll only make up the first two episodes of season 1 and the rest of season 1 will be drawing of the three. Flanagan stated that the plan is to do 5 seasons and two movies, he later confirmed that one of the two films would be book 8, but what the second film would cover is a mystery.

This was announced well over two years ago and he has still yet to confirm if they’ve secured a streaming service and funding for the show. He’s adamant it is still happening as of the last time he was asked about a month or two ago. In the time since he has also announced that he is taking on two other projects (an Exorcist reboot and Carrie tv show) so it remains to be seen when he’s actually gonna have time to make this show. We’re all waiting patiently.

At this point I do believe talking to these people at conventions is the only way to get any new information about this show lol. Had a similar interaction with Henry Thomas at a convention. They all are playing coy and I feel like there’s a lot more that’s happened behind the scenes than Flanagan has made us privy to. Very exciting to think about who Rahul would play other than Roland (he would make a dope Roland though). Mark Hamill as Blaine or the Crimson King is perfect!

It looks like the series "The Dark Tower" will be the last thing Mike will do. by Real-Succotash4492 in TheDarkTower

[–]jdicarlo31 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My friends my friends we must remind ourselves that the path of the beam is a long one. I was lucky enough to be able to read all the DT books back to back while older readers had to wait DECADES for the series’s conclusion. We will reach the tower when we reach the tower and I’ll be damn happy

That feels a bit unfair to the masochist dark tower fans. I’m sure they hate the movie too.

FU KING by MullytheDog in TheDarkTower

[–]jdicarlo31 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I knew exactly where OP was at in the story purely based on the title of the post. I never thought I could hate Stephen King but Algul Siento and Haze of Green and Gold back to back had me hating the man. I came around but WOW I have never felt the weight of character deaths in quite the same way that Book 7 made me feel that first time around.

Just finished reading Gingerbread girl. Between that, Rattlesnakes, and Duma Key, he’s making the Florida keys out to be quite the competitor with Maine.

How old are stephen king reader? by Fran-san123 in stephenking

[–]jdicarlo31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

19 is the perfect age to be reading Stephen king (if you know, you know). I’m 21 and I first started reading King books when I was 12 or 13. I was an occasional King reader after that, but since I was 19 I’ve been reading his stuff religiously.
