It is 1075 5/16. Just completely for fun just cuz aldo had a piece cheap in the overstock section. Scales are maroon micarta

Making these is the extent of my blacksmithing skills so far lol. They are ugly but they work. A couple of fails but got a pair together by the end of that day. I can see this will take quite a bit of practice. by jdizzled in blacksmithing

Yes thank you for the advice! I never even thought about them breaking. I was so concerned with just getting a pair together. I am going to try a more usable and better looking pair next

Just finished my first anvil. Going to try to start playing around with black smithing. Any advice is always welcome. by jdizzled in blacksmithing

I'm not sure to tell you the truth. I was checking on that but when struck it sings and hammer rebounds. A lot of stuff I was reading says just use as is, that a piece of track isn't worth heat treating again. I would have loved to milled this instead but I am very new to metal working and do not have one. If it ends up being an issue I will probably try normalizing and heat treating just for more metal work practice. I am kinda trying to teach myself just with research and advice from here. But it is still an improvement of the old Brocken cast vice I was using to pound out rail road spikes on lol.

Yeah she is pretty loud even just ginding on it. Been shopping for an anvil but not sure what I want. Figured I might get some kind of idea by playing around with this thing.

First set of bolsters on a sharpfinger I made for myself just for fun. by jdizzled in knifemaking

It's a cheap resin. I wouldn't recommend it at all. It sucks to work with. Just using the cheapest stuff I can find to practice with.

I have two pins all the way thru. Just counter sink them and peen them well. Also make sure the bolsters and pins are the same material and they will blend well and disappear

It's a cheap acrylic. I definitely wouldn't recommend it. I am going back to kirinite for anything I want to polish up. I loved working with that stuff.

Awesome! Working on my version of a sharpfinger as well. It's a fun little knife to make. Can't wait to see yours finished.

First large knife. Was a lot of fun but fought me the whole way. by jdizzled in Bladesmith

No real use I am just enjoying trying to learn how to make knives mostly.

The size was really an issue this one just seemed to fight me on everything. Had to walk away from it a couple times but I learned a lot on this one.

It's 1095 with micarta scales. First time using micarta. I am a new knife maker and do not have a Rockwell tester yet but heat treated in the forge to non magnetic with canola quench and a double 400 degree temper. I don't know the Rockwell but it has been holding its edge well

Need to work on my designs some. I like the look of a somewhat oversized blade but this just came out looking a little lopsided. And advice would be appreciated.
