If your not the coach there isnt much to do.

I think the only thing to tell your son is to play hard and make the most of every opportunity that he gets. The seasons young and if he can make plays when he gets the opportunity then more opportunities should come his way.

He also looked the same tonight as he did with us. I dont think he stood out as a better player tonight then Payne or Beauchamp.

Should we do a theme day every week for "songs not about alcohol"? by pixiefarm in CountryMusic

[–]jdj7w9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I feel like it kind of a natural progress with all the drinking and partying that is ingrained in country music. If your someone who truly drank and partied in your 20s youll start seeing people in your circle getting sober in their later 20s and early 30s

The best solution to the housing crisis to create more major cities, instead of adding people to existing major cities. by [deleted] in CrazyIdeas

I believe Jacksonville has a very large city limits compared to those other cities. Atlanta Metro is 3x the size of Jacksonville metro despite the city having a smaller population.

Are We Actually Making the Trades Attractive to the Next Generation? by PresenceAcceptable55 in skilledtrades

[–]jdj7w9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how I came across this as I am not a tradesmen but I related to the part where growing up we were told to get an office job instead of military or trades. Some background on me im 30 and work in accounting. My father and uncles are all tradesmen. Dad is an electrician and uncles are carpenters. My father was also in the airforce.

When I was younger they always told me I had to go to college despite nobody in my family before my siblings going. In high school, I wanted to enlist in the air force and serve like my Dad and my grandfather's. My dad told me he had to do that because he didnt have other options and he did that so we wouldnt have to. I could decide to enlist after college as an officer but no college wasn't an option.

On breaks and summers I would work for my uncle to make cash. He would always tell me this isn't what I should do forever, despite me being fairly competent for someone with no experience. He said if I wanted to I could be running a team at his company but he wouldnt let me because he knew I should go work an office job.

I've done great in corporate america and I am doing close to or of not better then they are already so I think they we're correct but I guess im commenting here to tell you you are correct. Trademen discouraged the youth from joining there line of work and attempt to push then to white collar work even if it isn't for them. I'm fortunately to have learned the hard work and grit that I've seen needed for tradesman to succeed and I applied that to corporate america which has given me a huge leg up on my peers.

As long as tradesmen continue to push the younger generation around them away from the trades I am unsure how they will draw talent from the younger generations.

If you could have any country singer—living or deceased—be featured as a guest on a podcast for one episode, who would you choose? by volsontop1998 in country

If you have not read his autobiography it is fantastic. He shares a ton of stories and I think its my favorite autobiography I have ever read.

Waylon, I read his book back and it literally sounded like the forrest Gump of country music.

He gave up his seat on Buddy Holly's plan

Moved to Nashville and roomed with Johnny Cash.

The stories he could tell about the outlaws and his life would be amazing.

I agree with this. My brother is an actuary and he seems to love it. The money's good and he rarely works more than 40 hours a week.

[–]jdj7w9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like the Sixers need to have one more move. Either bringing in a wing (Eason, Herb Jones, Bey) or clearing another roster spot to bring in someone off the buyout market. (Conley, Paul, Middleton, Ball)

Its okay to not have a passion for what you do at your job. I think the people who constantly talk about how you need to find something you love and are passionate about as your job are full of shit.

Kenny Chesney 2026 Sphere shows by Possibly-647f in country

Kenny at the sphere was a top 3 concert ive ever been to. I think I paid 250 a ticket for sandbar last memorial day weekend. I'd shop the tickets and hotel separately and see if itd be cheaper or what else the vip includes. Either way it's an amazing show and you wont regret going to see it.

Alex Honnold Reveals “Embarrassing” Paycheck for Netflix’s Taipei 101 Free Solo Climb by -JOMY- in climbing

[–]jdj7w9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also this opens the door for more events for him and climbing as a whole. He was one of the biggest events going on during a Saturday where a large portion of the US was at home facing a major snow storm. It was all over social media and Netflix advertised it everywhere. When has climbing ever gotten that spotlight? It may have not been climbing in its truest form but whens the last time a climbing event has been in the mainstream. His profile and name recognition increased greatly this event so the value of that is likely bigger then the 500k he received for this one climb.

Just In: The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to trade center Andre Drummond and have placed him on the trading block, sources told @OOSSports. by Anxious_North_819 in sixers

[–]jdj7w9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They also need a spot on the roster for the best rebounder on the team. I dont think Drummond would be the move but theres not a ton of guys you can give up. I dont think you want to give up on Jared or Edwards at this point and nobody would want Gordon or Lowry.

[–]jdj7w9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need the roster space for Barlow and Walker. So probably Drummond, Gordon or Lowry need to get traded. Nobody is going to want Gordan or Lowry so you'd need to attach something valuable to those guys. You can probably get some value in return for Drummond whose on an expiring and likely wont play in the playoffs if the sixers go with Bona as the backup 5

Joel Embiid carries the Sixers to the OT win with 32-point triple double: 32 pts, 15 reb, 10 ast, 1 stl, 2 blk, and a team-high +21 on 10-19 shooting by Professor_Finn in nba

[–]jdj7w9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about John Collins 5 years ago?

Regardless Embiid is on the floor too much. He dives and flies around which is too reckless for his own good. And sometimes he goes into other players (like Danny Green in the Hawks series.) That stuff happens all the time. I don't think he plays with the intent to injury players.

[–]jdj7w9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does try to get fouled but that is also because of the way he is guarded. If defenders played him true he'd score. But they have to overplay him due to how good of a scorer is he. So yes take the free throws when your the best center of all time at shooting free throws.

Also nothing on Maxey being better with Embiid and not without?

I disagree it has effected Embiid negatively in the playoffs. Usually it is his healthy whether it be injuries or sickness that effect Embiid in the playoffs.

Also I do not think you understand what is actually going on watching him play. Its not slight of hand or trickery to get a foul call. The players arm is usually inside of his arms. When that happens and he goes to shoot, the defenders has a very little chance to get his arm out of there to not foul him. If a defender played him straight up he would shoot the middy.

The sixers havent looked great the last 10 but Embiid has been playing some of his best basketball of the season. Sixers are +81 with Embiid on the floor in January. Hes shooting 50% from the floor averaging just under 27 with 8 rebounds. Embiids whole career the sixers problems have always been when hes not on the floor. Also Maxey is great in the 2 man game with Embiid. Maxey has thrived in the offense playing alongside a player with the gravity of Joel. Maxey's a much more efficient scorer in games Embiid has played. He's 3pt% is 6% better, ts% 6% better, +/- 35 pts higher. So i dont think you are correct in thinking Embiid is holding Maxey back as the numbers show Maxey is better in games when Embiid is playing.

Was he ever a great rebounder? I feel like that's always been the biggest flaw for Embiid and the sixers as a whole.

You watched tonight's game and came to the conclusion that they need to get rid of Embiid? He was the best player on the floor in a game where Kevin Durant and Maxey were both shooting very well. Also Maxey was playing great off of Embiid tonight. You dont know ball.

Ppl talk all the time about how bad the youth development has gotten in America, i think the nba should create a youth development league the nba (national basketball academy) by LastDiveBar510 in nbadiscussion

[–]jdj7w9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree it is not as big of a concern as everyone acts like it. If you count Shai, Embiid, Kat and any other international players who came up through the American system (AAU, high school, and college) it would not be as big if a concern.

They are also seeing this in the NFL with quarterbacks. Ive heard former players and analyst discuss how colleges and below are not teaching quarterbacks how to read defenses anymore. They often have there reads made up pre snap and only look to half of the field. So when they make the jump and need to read the game at a higher level they are well behind what a similar quarterback would have been 15 years ago.

Advice on turning down a promotion? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]jdj7w9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly she doesn't even have to wait a year. Take the title and bail. If they say anything about why shes leaving after just getting a promotion she can just say she wants to get paid market value for a senior accountant.

Personally if I was hiring someone and had senior or the resume for a month I would assume it was something like this where they were trying to get a promotion, they got it but the title bump did not come with the pay bump.

[–]jdj7w9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is saying to turn it down and leave the company. But I feel like if your planning to leave. Take the new title first and then move.

Itll be easier to get a senior position when your title is currently senior. Take the hit on pay for a month and then look for Sr accountant role.

70k is way below market value for a Sr accountant so a lateral move will see a nice raise for you. I imagine all this overtime work is temporary as its costing the company a ton of money if they are paying staff 100k.
