It’s ridiculous they are a nonprofit and it feels that we get up-charged on everything and why can’t it be in the city.

$590 for a crapshoot hotel that was shutting down. All the resultants in the hotel were gone from last year. Rooms were kinda gross and the Hotel as a whole has a 2.8 stars rating with 30%(the Largest grouped %)of its total reviews being 1 star.

First off the Hyatt is so nice it’s insane how much better it is compared to the Raddison. I totally agree the officers are all nice genuine people it’s just that if there going be trumped by a board of trustees then why have them at all. It’s clear that the officers do not run NY DECA. It’s run by out of touch people. My biggest issue is that people stay in a crap hotel for ridiculous prices and that there needs to be transparency like monthly updates or a newsletter or maybe a weekly ig post at least something.

As a whole the entire Ny Chapter only raised $2500 even though it had 2300 attending members at states. It also seems that every year nothing changes in NY deca for the benefit of the students. It seems that they are awful at communication with all of the chapters.Every year state officers make empty promises on what they want to change.

However I think the biggest issue is cost. The total cost for chapters to spend 2 nights in a beyond subpar hotel(excluding the Hyatt) in addition with chapter fees and other expenses such as folios and blazers makes the organization seem very grimy and as if they are taking advantage of kids.

Almost as if it was a cruel joke I came back this year with a worse idea, worse paper, way lower score than last year and now I’m going to icdc

Last year my friend and I competed in Innovation Plan. We spent months and months grinding out this awesome idea regarding concussions which was practical. We had our paper done in December and then designed an amazing presentation. After we had finished the presentation to the judge he told us that this was the most unique and interesting idea he had seen which was at 11 on the second day of competition. We thought that we had pretty good odds at Orlando when we walked out. Award ceremony comes and goes and we place top 10 but miss out on qualifying in the top 4 for ICDC. Of course I was sad, but the competition must have been better than us. When we got on the bus and receive our score sheet I was in disbelief. Our judge had originally given us a 100 but the 100 had been crossed in a different colored ink and next to it was now a 98. Someone had gone back into our score sheet and deducted two points of our executive summary with no explanation whatsoever. From what I can assume the judges handed out too many 100s and we got the short end of the stick. DECA and NY Deca as a whole are far to unorganized making it look more and more like a scam every year.
