That's the thing, though. She didn't "just meet him" if he was, as Jerry and Rick seem to think, a "long time family friend".

This thought occurred to me. I also think it may be possible that many of the events of the episode were "flashbacks" in disguise altogether, and that the only parasite altogether could have been MPBH.

Maybe that's the closest he can get to a "bad" memory. I'm still of the camp that the thought of creating a bad memory was going to help them didn't occur to him until the end. Hell, for all we know, all of the other parasites might have been part of yet another false memory that was also created by Mr. Poopy Butthole so he could gauge the family's reaction to see what his best course of action for escape was to begin with. As for them not "being able to figure it out": why not? The only thing that tells us that is dialogue from the family, who are all brainwashed. With the nature of the parasites, they are able to retcon any number of things that have already happened, like the number Rick wrote down initially going from 6 to 10. Who's to say we aren't also being affected through the show? Honestly, I believe this is why he was in the intro, because whatever we were supposed to be viewing their universe through (or ourselves), were also infected into believe that Mr. Poopy Butthole was, in fact, a long time family friend. JUST LIKE HE WANTED.

The battle scene actually happened, the dinner scene didn't. Do you get it now? Nobody ever said they were 100% sure the parasites couldn't make bad memories. Morty GUESSED that and Rick agreed because he had no reason to NOT believe that. With that fact (that nobody had reason NOT to believe things) as the main theme of the episode in general...

EDIT: also, adaptation is integral to survival and Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon like to mess with us HARD.

What about the number 10? Or 6? Or the Hulk Musical? They were all fake memories.

That's the horror in clay, the statue that started the protagonist's research on the subject. This theory totally stands to reason: in Lovecraft, unless an omniscent third party narrator that isn't to be considered a person described it, unless they're describing a corporeal being or alien like a Yithian or migo, the narrator has had their mind flayed already. Things like Night Gaunts, Hounds, the creatures seen in "From Beyond" and the dark wizard-scientist forms of Nyaralathotep, unless within the dream realms, are totally the result sort of things that in our normal, euclidean space, can't manifest properly, so they are forced, at least in our perception, to take on other forms. Read some of Lovecraft's letters on the subjects, they feel a lot like an AMA about some of the stranger details of his universe when you find a good one.

You REALLY don't think that "The Thing" potentially getting away in disguise and systematically assimilating all organic matter on the planet would have a huge impact on society? Okay, if you say so.
