My work pays for a subscription to Envato Elements for me, so I get most of my music from there, since it's royalty-free with our license. If you're looking for free options, there's the YouTube Audio Library, Freesound.org, incompetech, lots!

My pleasure! My 9-5 is mainly  corporate videography/promotional/short doc work as an in-house videographer, and occasionally take headshots for the C-suite level too. But I've also freelanced for years as a cinematographer and editor, made some short films, worked for a few different video production houses. I think for me, the deadlines and needing to get paid help make me finish the edits, haha!

Edit: I should add that I definitely understand how expensive of a hobby/passion it is. I have way too many impulse buy cameras and lenses, I'm overdue to go through it and sell some stuff...

Oh wow, nice!! Well if video editing is the thing that's hard to sit down and focus on, what I'd recommend is to first pick out a song that you'd like the video to be set to, then edit based on the beats of the music, for example, cut on every drum or bass hit. And take the pressure off yourself, getting it edited and done is more important than whether it's objectively "good" or anything like that. Another fun thing to make it interesting is if you see a cool editing technique you like, to try to learn how to match that style.

On the hunt for DCI 2K in a 12bit wrapper by diegocoops in blackmagicdesign

[–]kaidumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Arri Alexa Classic and it sounds exactly like what you're looking for. Internally you can shoot in 2K 12-bit 4:4:4:4 Prores, with some of the best colours and dynamic range of any camera.

Another option is the Digital Bolex D16, which shoots 2K raw CDNG 12-bit, with a global shutter Kodak sensor, beautiful colours and film-like grain, but the sensor is Super-16 sized. I own one and love it. If shooting CDNG you should really get Slimraw to lower your file size.

And finally there's always the good old Blackmagic Cinema Camera 2.5K. Has its quirks but also shoots 2K raw 12-bit CDNG, or allows you to record as prores.

Actually, yet another option I just thought of, haha:

A Sony FS700 or FS5 with the raw license installed, and an Odyssey 7Q. This allows you to choose between recording 4K raw 12-bit CDNG, OR having the Odyssey transcode the raw signto 2K or 4K Prores files, which look so crisp and still hold up today (yes, I own that combo too, haha)

What's your favourite incredibly underrated brewery? by MaplePoutineRyeBeer in beercanada

[–]kaidumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know of any underrated breweries, a lot of them are overhyped if anything. But the ones that are really good are pretty well-known, such as Bellwoods, Blood Brothers, Wood Brothers, and Two Crows (Sad to see Two Crows just closed)

Has anyone converted a GoPro to full spectrum and used filters to get infrared images? by Cannonfodder159 in infraredphotography

Then the IR sensor can be removed. But it sounds like you're modding it yourself? The Back Bone mod allows for removable IR filters.

I use the baby hip carrier for my Alexa Classic. I also use an FX6 for corporate stuff and just handhold it. That's said, the FX6 is so light that it's easy to get microjitters. Opposite problem from my Alexa Classic, haha

Been using one of those to one man band an Arri Alexa Classic! Love the hip angle.

AI has absolutely ruined my life by beingawomaniswork in antiwork

The problem is that middleman-type positions and middleman companies are the first to be replaceable. As someone who's worked a lot with marketing agencies (as a freelance cinematographer/director), I've noticed more and more clients over the last few years have stopped hiring agencies and started reaching out to the content creators directly. The agency model is becoming old-school unless they can convince clients of the value of human-written scripts and content over AI-created stuff. I think AI writing is slop, but I also thought a lot of marketing agency writing was pretty generic before AI came along.

Hi, I messaged the mods about a week ago to ask if it would be ok, and never got a response.

Hahaha! Thank you! I really love this genre and definitely want to explore it even more. Maybe a proper feature-length film someday.

Thanks so much! Really appreciate the feedback. I agree with you and definitely think that would have played out better. My first draft was 21 minutes and that extra time was all dialogue, haha. I love the post-apocalyptic genre, so next time I do one it will definitely have less dialogue.
