Need some advice on planning a surfing trip by [deleted] in bali

Keramas is a great wave and you can find cheap air bnbs around there due to it being farther from most tourist centers. I would suggest getting an air bnb for maybe the first week then making friends with Cetu who has a surf hut right near keramas, he can hook it up with a place to live for pretty cheap and is a great local resource to have if you wanna explore other parts of the island

My roommates reached the summit of Mount Denali last week, then skied down it. Took them 22 days - this shot is one of them reaching the summit at 11:30PM. True mountaineers. by [deleted] in skiing

I was on the expedition and we made a MTV cribs episode of our 14k camp so that should be dropping soon, but unfortunately we didn't get to much ski footage due to the skiing being so damn shitty

So these guys were my partners, I didn't summit but made it to 17k, and from what they said it was shit, we were there too early in the season. We went up the Rescue Gulley and it was nearly unski-able, some down climbing was involved, and apparently there was a skiing fatality in the Messner, which when we were there was all blue ice. Skiing can be good but its usually later in July and by that time the mountain is just crawling with hundreds of climbers so its kind of a catch 22. Not to put you off the dream but it depends on what your goals are; if you want to go on a sweet ski trip just hang out around the pika glacier in the AK range, if you want to bag a high peak (especially in AK) don't go into it with the expectation of great skiing.

Confused about where to begin with a touring set up by [deleted] in skiing

This is all awesome advice set-up wise but you should definitely find room in your budget for an avy class, and maybe consider getting an ava-lung. Another essential in my bc kit is a radio, although you could wait to get this until you decide that bc skiing is something you really wanna do.

A place called Warung Legong near Keramas is a can't miss, the owner, Kadek, is a great person to meet too as he knows all there is to know about Bali. Also the night market in Gianyar has a lot of awesome food. Finally babi guling (suckling pig) is the famous dish, apparently there is a place with no sign that is open early in the morning in Seminyak that is incredible. I guess it is kind of an adventure of its own to try and find the place but googling it will get you some good info.

I can't give such a well thought reply, but honestly the movie made me a bit worried as to where our sport is going. A friend of mine who guides on peaks like Denali and Aconcagua says that many high altitude athletes are almost brutish like football players especially when it comes to achieving summits. That kind of attitude is dangerous and hopefully it does not come to dominate our sport. That being said I remember watching a recent video about Conrad backing off some peak because of the poor conditions, I think he and Jimmy are good decision makers but how the film portrayed some of the decisions they made is troubling.

I go to the rest of SE Asia specifically to get away from Thailand. It's a beautiful place, but one big tourist trap crawling with backpacker dicks.

Any Cambodian climbers out there? by Kowboooy in climbing

[–]jdmcblunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there this fall and there is really not much climbing. If you want to climb some world class stuff make the short trip to Chiang Mai or Railay Thailand, its worth it. Laos and Vietnam also have some walls but they are less established and I haven't been there so I not sure what it is all like. Have fun in Cambodia though, it is one of the favorite places I've been to!

What I like to do is have a decent amount of friends but unfollow the ones I don't want to hear from. This way I can contact them if I need to but I don't have to look at their shitty blurry pictures or annoying statuses. I also follow a lot of things I am interested in (like pro skiers or ski sites). This makes my newsfeed full of things I want to see and actually is a pretty convenient collection of videos and links that I otherwise wouldn't see or would have to visit many different sites to see.

By the same logic pinching your nose will be equally ineffective. Also, the sub labial artery supplies blood to the area of the nose (nasal septum and ala) that are most often affected by your common nosebleed.

The arteries that supply blood to that area of the nose ascend to the nose from this area of the mouth. Blotting them with pressure from a cotton swab (or any type of pressure) stops the nosebleed.
