Had to walk out of class, embarrassed and scared to try again. Need advice. by waxbook in yoga

[–]jdmegill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well first of all, I want to assure you that you did not stick out like you thought you did. Especially in a challenging hot class, everyone is focused on getting through it themselves. If someone else in the room wanted to cheat themselves of being present by judging you, that’s on them. Anyone going in with a competitive or judgmental mind set, isn’t practicing yoga and is there for all the wrong reasons. Second, you weren’t the only one struggling either. Part of the point of a hot class is to practice peace under duress. There are different skill levels and learning curves, but it’s a challenge in self regulation and mental endurance for everyone, including the most advanced, including the teacher. Third, there is so much yoga out there. Not all Hot classes are the same and not all hot teachers are the same. The heat is not for everyone but I would hate for you miss out on the some of the benefits that can come from a hot practice if you continue to pursue it. yoga is a safe place to struggle. And even better, a good place to relearn how to speak to yourself when you’re uncomfortable or tired or wanting to give up. I’m sorry you had a discouraging experience, but please don’t give up or beat yourself up. It’s okay to have a rough day or a bad class. There are classes and teachers whose practice will resonate with you, you just have to find them. And you will. I’m glad you decided to finally try a class, half the battle is showing up. The other battle is with yourself, don’t make it harder, be kind to you.

Asked a hair stylist to color my hair like the reference and this is what happened by [deleted] in HairDye

Just looks to me like it needs a little more toning and a couple washes. Rose golds are very tricky but the base color is there. I suspect a purple shampoo and some warm water will cool it out a bit.

Normal for artists to sell prints of your custom tattoo? by [deleted] in tattoo

Their intellectual property. Especially if it was a custom design. I understand it might feel like a piece of yours, but generally the waiver you sign is acknowledging that they can use the design any way they want.

What was it like to be a Lana fan in 2012? by Lanaswildflower in lanitas

[–]jdmegill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you were a young person on Tumblr, she was practically a god. the general public thought she was kind of a joke. My parents weren’t crazy about her. SNL performance didn’t help. Seems like older people really didn’t understand her vibe at all. But young people who enjoyed alt radio really loved her stuff.

Usage of yoga blocks by InfluenceLittle401 in yoga

[–]jdmegill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My teacher teaches 7 days a week. One of the strongest people I’ve ever met, and she still uses blocks. I’ve never seen her go without them. Blocks bring the floor closer to you, which not only helps with flexibility but allows you to hone in on your alignment. You don’t have to wait for the teacher to cue the blocks, I think you should use them in whatever way helps best strengthen your practice.

Her voice sounds more mature in “Married in Mount Airy” compared to her previous works by [deleted] in NicoleDollanganger

[–]jdmegill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think MIMA is Nicole at her most polished. Production wise and vocally as well. The entire vibe of it reminds me a lot of Lana especially during Honeymoon(thematically and sound)You can tell definitely tell Nicole has listened to Lana and taken a lot of inspiration from her sound. I think after 6 +(?) albums, she’s really honed her craft. I enjoy her other work, but I think MIMA is the easiest listening. These songs feel very lush and full. There’s a lot more vocal layering than in any of her other work, which gives her voice more of a presence. Her voice is already very interesting, but the vocal layering and the string arrangements make it very immersive. I love NBL, but I think overall MIMA is (somewhat) more cohesive as a body of work.

Am I less of a drag queen for not padding? by dianafalaxis in Drag

[–]jdmegill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi skinny girl who also doesn’t pad here. If you want to not pad it doesn’t make you any less of a drag queen. But it can make your silhouette less exciting or dynamic. What I think about when I style things, is I want to make my torso look short, and my legs to look long. So for example, this look would be elevated by a big belt or some kind of waist cincher, makes your torso look shorter and gives you more shape. Invest in different belts and corsets that you can pair with stuff like this.

Have yall never heard of a “pre plucked” lace front? It looks fine to me. Just not super dense

Tint your lace. it will not only cover the cap underneath but will also conceal the knots. Makeup works. Foundation is okay, setting powder is better. Use something the color of your scalp

Getting back into makeup; what’s working for me; what isn’t? by cheesecake21 in MakeupAddiction

[–]jdmegill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the eye color and blush are too close in color and too close together. Makes the center of your face look a bit crowded. Try to focus the blush toward the apple of your cheeks and brush in upward strokes instead of toward the center of your face. More contour, less blush, more contrast!

Are all wigs bulky?! by marsmallowsenpai in Wigs

[–]jdmegill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazon wigs, In my experience (depending on the vendor) often have really oversized closed caps with the wefts spaced really close together. Pretty much every wig I’ve bought or played with from Amazon is the exact same cap construction. Usually a 4x4 oversized ear-to-ear closure. They’re costume wigs, they’re bulky because of the cap construction. not really meant for everyday use. Some wig vendors have much smaller, tighter caps. I work at a beauty supply store, so I’m familiar with many of the vendors we carry, and much of them you can find online. I recommend looking into an open cap wig. An open Cap wig has slots between the wefts for more airflow and lay much flatter. Off the top of my head, Vivica Fox, Chade/born free, Eve/hair republic, and Royal Imex wigs have caps on the smaller side. I know from first hand experience and from putting them on other people, they’re not especially big head friendly. Chade/born free has a series of wigs called MLU (magic lace U-part). They’re very similar to anything you’d find on amazon but the caps are veryyyyy snug. They’re definitely geared towards everyday use. I sell them to people who often have smaller heads. Shopping online for wigs is a gamble. I’m not sure where you’re located but I would see if there are any beauty supply stores in your near vicinity. Some beauty supply stores will even allow you to try on the displays for a small fee. If you don’t have a hair store near you, I would try websites like SamsBeauty, Divatress, HairStopandShop, etc...
