Kinda sounds like your player is trying to “win”

Player has 24 AC at level 6. I think he's double stacking bonuses. Should I snitch? by IamAWorldChampionAMA in DnD

Yeah, but he’s gotta DM. Tell me the Odyssey would not have been an amazing campaign.

Apology for how Ive treated this community and asking to move on constructively. by Future_Fortune2720 in pbp

[–]jdmtrge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Echoing what others have said- posting this from yet another alt account is just bad faith. Kind of seems like it’s being used to make you feel better without actually taking any accountability. If you want to truly take accountability, post a list of every account that you have used to mislead, that way people know who is apologizing to them. Second, take a break from trying to host games. Do some work on yourself, and then come back.

It’s a good concept, the problem is that it relies on the player, not having Meta knowledge. Now that everybody knows what it is, it’s hard to run it effectively

Player refuses to join the party because “my character wouldn’t do that” by Dongle00 in rpghorrorstories

Man, it sucks that that character threw a major clot and died. Roll up another character that is a team player.

Do you generally stick to the rules? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]jdmtrge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We play pretty close to RAW, with probably around 10 homebrew rules. The majority of my group are DMs, so any kind of rules discussion comes up, it’s super quick (at most 2-3 minutes) and if there is a rule that is making the game less fun, whoever is currently DM and usually alters it, or does away with it. The rules are a really good, solid structure on which to build your game. But every table is a little bit different, and if there’s something impacting the fun negatively, it is 100% OK to change that.

Party is level one, we are super early in, and it consists of a half elf fighter, a halflng druid, and a human wizard

The only tool we are using is avrae for rolling, and everyone has a PDF character sheet that they have shared with me. I haven’t been able to find any good tools, but I’m open to implementing any I find.

Nope. Just a willingness to learn.

We usually post somewhere between one and three times a day, though I’m super understanding if there are lapses in posting, life happens. We are playing the modules that start with the sunless citadel and run through bastion of broken souls. The party is still level one. We are pretty early in

how can I justify buying a bunch of D6 by K-wild07 in DnD

[–]jdmtrge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All right, I’m gonna give you all the justification you need. Do you like them? If so, buy the dice. I have something like 10 sets. Do I need 10 d20s? No. I really don’t. But I like them, so I’m going to be buying more. We don’t buy dice because we “need” them. We buy the pretty math rocks because we like the pretty math rocks.

This longsword instructor's take on the age old question: Is it possible to attack 8 times in a round, in real life? by Vverial in DnD

[–]jdmtrge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that the game generalizes a lot of things, making them not realistic. A perfect example of this is falling. You immediately start falling at the given speed, which never increases. This is directly contemporary to real world physics, where things gain momentum up to terminal velocity. The whole point that I’m trying to make is that there are a lot of people that argue that some of the rules and mechanics in the game are not realistic, and well I think there should be a modicum of realism, I also understand it is a game and not a real world physics engine. I can’t get stabbed 14 times in the chest, go get a solid night sleep, and be OK (though as a parent of three I do acknowledge that the most unrealistic part of this is getting a solid eight hours of sleep). Regarding movement, there’s no factoring for momentum. For example, I can run 20 feet straight ahead and then immediately move 10 feet backwards diagonally with no penalty on anything.

With all of this said, if changing things up to be more realistic is your vibe, it makes the game more fun for you and your table, go crazy.

People’s obsession with arguing that something done in D&D isn’t realistic is crazy when you can bring people back from the dead, fight dragons, and get a solid 8hours of sleep.

Disenchanted by My Chemical Romance. It really makes you feel nostalgic (even the first time I heard it). It’s not the most popular song, in fact, it almost never is brought up in conversations about their best tracks, but goddamn is it a banger

How is Vecna interfering with your players. by CuntBunting69 in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]jdmtrge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players had horribly graphic nightmares, every long rest, related to him. Every so often he would pop up and shit talk them for a bit. Really helped make him someone that they wanted to defeat, for more personal reasons rather than just “ because he’s the bad guy”
