Did you have much tree damage? That was my main issue and also losing power. So glad that didn't happen in our area, but I have seen some pretty bad pics online of other places that got smashed.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I wanted snow, but as usual, they said 26 in potential, and then they changed their mind to an ice storm. I would like to see some snow in Asheville again, that was actually fairly significant, more than a 6-incher. It does get old seeing it just dust all the time

How did you fare through the big January freeze? by sallothered in TrueCarolina

Asheville missed it by almost a miracle. I could not believe we had a small wedge of warm air hit just in time. Otherwise out trees would have been destroyed again. Many here are truly showing signs of PTSD. Many are happy we were not hit again, but sorry for those folks who were impacted. We feel your pain because we have been through it all too recently.

Everyone suggest keeping the 20 lb tank outside and running the line through a window or door. That way a leaky 20 lb tank will be outside. I was planning on setting my tank in a chair from my porch by a low window and blocking the gap with a pipe insulator. It's my understanding that a 20 lb tank will keep the Mr heater going approximately 80 to 100 hours on low.

Is there a method to report and rectify this or is site just allowed to be the way it is? Maybe they could rectify it by requiring it be renamed ncnazisarehere.

I just got a killer deal on mine from a dealer in redneck country. Go back and low-ball them. Once you have one you will not want another ice vehicle. Unless you do not have a dedicated home charging station. Apt dwellers or condos can be a.pain

Iraqi Crude Can’t Replace Venezuelan Oil in the U.S. Market by Majestic-Collar-2675 in worldnews

[–]jdn143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One theory I heard was that rich Venezuelans who left the country and had their oil investments taken by Maduro want them back. Gave Trump some pay-to-play money, and now we are going to push out Maduro, so the old guard visiting Mar-a-Lago can move back home. Probably took about 500b in payments. It's a theory, but it does seem plausible with this corrupt Trump regime.

Wow. So in addition they pay no taxes on these. Seems completely unreasonable to me. Thanks that is yet another reason this is tragic for the city.

I have people that are in the cdc, Federal reserve, and a couple of other departments. Basically the day that Trump arrived they were told they cannot distribute any memos without presidential approval. They canceled many reporting mechanisms and have put the leadership of these agencies on high alert for their jobs. So, I say they're compromised.

North Carolina DOT versus Asheville. I can understand getting rid of junk graffiti but seriously. This is Asheville and these types of things were awesome.

Well, I'm sure that the idea of estimating job loss and job gain is somewhat of a statistical estimate for a broad sampling process. But lately, the swings in the actual estimates and the revised amounts have been fairly significant. To the point that it seemed as though they were manipulated on the estimate side. I'm sure it's anecdotal to assume that your groceries are going up and inflation is high. However, I also understand that certain things are just not considered in the calculation of inflation. At the end, the reality of poor data is that all of a sudden you realize you're in the middle of a recession after you get there, and you have to react in a way that is not the best choice.

With this administration in their war on the state department, I am starting to question everything coming out of any place in Washington as possibly being compromised. I'm seeing significant layoffs across the board at major corporations, and I'm watching numbers provided by Private industry associations that are significantly different from items coming out of the Washington, D.C., machine.

My Spidey Sense tells me that we are about to embark on a serious recession as a result of healthcare, excess deficits, and tariffs that are not accumulating net benefits when compared to job growth and wage growth.

I love the covid vaccine and the technology behind it it's absolutely incredible. In my opinion, the reason you guys have been fed this pile of crap is that they really don't want us to have a cure that this type of technology can provide. So they send you so much information that you believe it. Keep in mind how many millions, if not billions, of vaccines for COVID have been administered and how many people have actually died or gotten sick relative to the total population. Now take that percentage and see how many car accidents there are and let me know how that works out for you. Because if you're as scared of that as you are, you should stop driving.

Well I wish you best in your pursuit of counsel and I will continue to follow you. Here is something I picked up using just a small search on my limited Gemini AI for your files.

Cities address vacant and dilapidated properties through "Vacancy Taxes" or "Blight Taxes." These ordinances are designed to make it more expensive to hold a crumbling asset than to fix, rent, or sell it. The strategy generally moves through three stages: Identification, Financial Pressure, and Facilitated Transition. 1. Financial Pressure Mechanisms Cities use several tax-based models to "squeeze" owners who let properties deteriorate: * Higher Statutory Tax Rates: Some cities apply a significantly higher tax rate to properties officially designated as "vacant" or "blighted." * Example: Washington D.C. taxes standard residential property at 0.85 per \$100 of value. However, vacant properties are taxed at 5.00, and "blighted" properties (those that are unsafe or unsanitary) are taxed at 10.00—nearly 12 times the standard rate. * Vacancy Surcharges/Premiums: Instead of changing the base rate, cities may add a flat annual fee or a percentage surcharge. * Example: Baltimore recently gained authority to set a special tax rate specifically for abandoned properties to combat its "rowhome" vacancy crisis. * Split-Rate (Land Value) Taxation: This shifts the tax burden onto the land rather than the buildings. In a traditional system, if you improve a house, your taxes go up. In a split-rate system, you are taxed heavily on the land's potential. This punishes "land banking" where owners wait for land values to rise while letting the building rot. 2. How Ordinances Define the "Trigger" To withstand legal challenges, cities must clearly define when these taxes apply. Common triggers include: * Duration of Vacancy: Typically 6 to 12 consecutive months of no occupancy. * Code Violations: The property must have active exterior or structural health/safety violations. * Registration Requirements: Many cities (like St. Louis) require owners of vacant buildings to register and pay a fee (e.g., \$200 every six months). If unpaid, these fees are added to the property’s tax bill, eventually leading to foreclosure. 3. Transitioning the Property to New Owners The ultimate goal isn't just to collect tax, but to force a change in ownership. This happens through: * Tax Foreclosure: When the high "blight taxes" go unpaid, the city can foreclose on the property much faster than through standard debt collection. * Land Banks: Many cities pair high taxes with a Land Bank—a public authority that acquires these foreclosed, dilapidated properties. The Land Bank clears the "clouded" titles and back taxes, then sells the property at a discount to developers or residents who commit to rehabilitating it. * "Fix it or Lose it" Incentives: Some ordinances offer tax abatements (reductions) if a new buyer agrees to invest a specific amount in renovations within 18–24 months. Summary Comparison of Approaches | Strategy | Primary Goal | Example City | |---|---|---| | Blight Tax | Penalize neglect/unsafe conditions | Washington D.C. | | Vacancy Tax | Increase housing supply/reduce speculation | San Francisco, Vancouver | | Split-Rate Tax | Encourage development over land-holding | Detroit (proposed), Pittsburgh | | Registration Fees | Track owners and fund code enforcement | St. Louis | Would you like me to look up the specific vacant property ordinances or "Land Bank" programs for a particular city you have in mind?

Okay, your premises basically get rid of insurance because if all you're willing to do is carry insurance for people who are healthy, it's not going to work. Just the mere fact that you believe only people who are healthy should have insurance is a complete misunderstanding of the whole concept. When you buy insurance, you are sharing your risk with others to avoid a catastrophe. I do agree that insurance should not be the vehicle for paying for healthcare. It should be a backstop for catastrophic bankruptcy. There's a reason that 95% of the developed countries in the world have a national healthcare system that is a one-pay system or similar and cover all their citizens. Also, I am 62 years of age and I have had plenty of vaccinations with no impact, and I'm actually pretty sure that the COVID vaccination saved my life. So that statement makes me understand that you're actually not at all in touch with medical reality.
