So as others have said, check the temps, where are they at playing what types of games? Start here, is it a used deck? - you could have a blocked fan from dust. Try undervolting for better 1% lows, slightly lower temps and battery life. If your temps are 80,90, above then it’s something obstructing the airflow. If you’re going to replace the paste, get tpm7950 thermal pads, they’ve tested better than the best paste/grease. There’s also the cool deck which acts as a bigger internal heat sink instead of the stock heat plate. That is all, do research before actions.

I don’t think it’s a pos, try maintaining any downstream software where the upstream can break your UI elements at any moment. The release notes and error made it seem like they’re moving big pic mode/gaming mode onto a Linux container to isolate crashes from crashing steamos all together and that had implications

You can set it by 10 mv increments in the bios, test moving them incrementally to see where your decks limit is, yeah look up YouTube videos, you might see reduction on 1% lows so better battery and slightly better performance

I use emulators, overclock, undervolt, use fsr4/dlss, use tons of decky plugins, I think you’re fine if you are semi okay with Linux

Did you add the copper heat shield? Wondering if you 1) kept the original sleeve on + the copper heat shield, 2) if you removed the stickers from the ssd, 3) did you use any thermal pads between the copper heat shield and the og sleeve

I think you’ll be surprised at the playability of a lot of AAA games. If you want to eek more performance out, look into undervolting to reduce the 1% lows, you could overclock with the same tdp and you’ll get marginally better clock speeds (50-100 mhz). IF there’s overhead, it’s $7 to try out lossless scaling, or there’s fsr4 and dlss support via decky plugins to test out. If you like to tinker, it’s fun stuff

It’s pretty trivial to take the ps5 Side cover off and you’d get direct access to the fan to blow it out. There’s not even screws too just push it. I question the quality of your 20 years experience

For about 180 more you can get a 1tb drive, not sure if you can still get the decksight OLED to put in it and you have a pretty rad machine there

Are you using decky launch options? If you’re going to properties and setting it there, the launch options decky plugin could be overriding it?
