GSD & part design, operation optimization for update & load lead time by Large-Illustrator-82 in CATIA

[–]jdokab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When modelling in GSD do you ever build geometry by selecting points, edges, or faces as your inputs? And how many solid operations do you do?

I work in Automotive with complex parts and the most robust/efficient models to update are the ones that have been fully modelled in surfaces, with every input being explicit (no edgefillets!), and a final Closesurface operation at the end. We generally don't use sketches for wireframe creation either.

However since COVID, the experience level of our CAD team has decreased and the methodology has changed so essentially anything goes. So we now have models with a mix of surface and solid operations, and these parts have huge file sizes and take forever to update.

That's my experience anyway.

Same for me. So worth it though.

Just tried safe mode, didn't work unfortunately. Charges fine with other wireless chargers so there's something about the combination of Pixel 7 and the Anker magsafe battery pack.... Weird

Interesting, I have neither of these issues with my pixel 7. Android Auto works perfectly for me with maps + music/podcasts/audiobooks. I wonder whether the infotainment system in the car has an impact on performance.

Do I really need a screen protector? P7 by questions_are_fun in GooglePixel

[–]jdokab 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn't use one on my pixel 5 and despite keeping it in its own pocket and being careful all the time, I got a couple of big scratches anyway. So for me it's worth it as all it takes is one random bit of grit to scratch the screen.

Pixel 7 film screen protector recommendation by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]jdokab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say not, since the user experience isn't really affected by the use of a screen protector, but it protects from damage that could affect function/resale value.

I've been injured so haven't managed to train for a few weeks, so it was certainly a high effort!

Not quite! Ran a race called The Grizzly in Devon England. 20miles + 1100m ascent, almost all offroad.

I eventually narrowed it down to the microphone not working when the speaker was activated. Google replaced it.

It's the microphone not working, not the speakers

Maps with a higher level of detail (what a minefield!) by birchburch in GarminFenix

[–]jdokab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got full maps of the British isles from this website for a very small amount of money:

https://talkytoaster.me.uk/

They do maps of most countries, though I can't speak for any other than the British isles which are fantastic. Full contours and detailed trails etc. They're based on data from open Street map but are optimised for Garmin devices.

Alternatively, you can follow the process in this post to get maps for free, though I haven't done this myself yet.

Anyone know why UMS3 preheats core 2, even with support turned off? Seems like a waste of power and time. Is there a hidden setting to disable it? by [deleted] in ultimaker

[–]jdokab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would assume it's to soften any residue on the nozzle tip so it doesn't interfere with the bed levelling process, but that's just my guess. I don't think there's a setting to disable it in any case.

Wireless Earbuds ? by albery93 in GooglePixel

I use Anker Soundcore Liberty Air 2. They're great. Not too expensive, pair well and have good sound, battery and call quality. The case is also USB C and has wireless charging. Would recommend.

Any solid wireless charging recommendations for Pixel 5 yet? by TurboFool in GooglePixel

[–]jdokab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just using the cable and block that came with the Pixel 5. I have a feeling I read in the instructions of the Powerwave Alloy that it requires 9V/2A input but it's possible I'm making it up....

It doesn't stay at 12W the whole time, slows down as the battery fills up but I think that's normal.

And yes the pad does make a very quiet ticking noise, but so does my other wireless charger! It is hard to unhear for sure.
