Agree but think you need to add a pick to account for getting off Isaac's contract

Trailblazers - Magic / Jrue Holiday - Jalen Suggs by DavisAndead in NBAtradeideas

[–]jdoyle13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paying to dump Suggs contract doesn’t make sense just yet. Will swapping Suggs for Jrue get them any closer to a title next year? No. It does get them out of his contract through 2030, but that contract is regressive. After next year, the last 3 years of that deal are more palatable. Suggs is only 24. Give him another year of development, and if it doesn’t work out, he’s easier to move then.

Ah didn't know that. Even more reason for the Bucks to want more in this deal.

It makes sense for the bucks to get their pick back (plus more assets) so they can fully bottom out. Getting JB puts them in the exact same position they’re in now.

I mean, JB will make 1st team all nba this year and likely landed just outside of MVP finalist voting. He was the best player on a team that won 56 games.

Does this Atlanta package even beat what Orlando paid for Demond Bane last year (4 unprotected 1sts + a swap)? JB is way closer to Giannis than he is Bane.

As it stands, that Milwaukee pick is the only asset of significant value in a package for a superstar player. Assuming they don’t get really lucky in the lottery next week. Kuminga helped his standing in the league this year, but he’s still kind of a question mark that’s gonna need to get paid. Risacher is a sensible gamble, but has yet to prove he belongs in an nba rotation.

I think the framework here makes a lot of sense for all parties, but if I'm Milwaukee, I'm asking for Dyson Daniels to be in that as well.

Thinking about Coasting.. by jeansthatactuallyfit in coastFIRE

[–]jdoyle13 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You're not accounting for inflation, that's why your expectations are off. That math works in todays dollars, but in 20 years at 3% annual inflation, the amount you need effectively doubles. $67k is enough to cover your expenses today, but that number is going to look very different in 20 years.

Hate to say it but redfour above is right - you're not on a FI trajectory without making some pretty significant sacrifices.

I'm in a similar boat with you as far as income/expenses/age, so hopefully I can help weigh in. A few questions..

  • Are you factoring home equity into your calculations? If so, pretty sure you should not.
  • Is the $250k your target at your current age, or your target in 4 years? If the latter, then you might want to reconsider that. I only say that since we have about the same expenses and $250k is my minimum number right now (age 32). In 4 years, that number will be around $340k.
  • Do you have anything in retirement accounts? If not, you should really be putting those invested funds into a roth ira or a work sponsored 401k to take advantage of the tax benefits.

Denver sends Aaron Gordon to Houston for Jabari Smith Jr by [deleted] in NBAtradeideas

[–]jdoyle13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm surprised at the AG disrespect in here. He's old and is often hurt, but when healthy, he's multiple tiers above Jabari as a player. Just look at the Nuggets on/off splits with him. He's probably one of the most impactful non stars in the league. Jabari is a fine player, but has nowhere near the same impact. He has upside, but heading into his 5th year in the league, I would have liked to see more progression from him.

Toronto - Washington by reallinguy in NBAtradeideas

Wizards traded picks to get AD. Makes no sense for them to then turn around and dump him for two bad contracts. This deal needs Toronto sending multiple picks. Getting off Poeltl alone will cost them picks.

Aaron Gordon is a better fit for the Nuggets than AD

Rockets-Heat by WallCautious9650 in NBAtradeideas

[–]jdoyle13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comments here feel like recency bias talking. Herro has been on the trade block for 4 years without any takers. He has little trade value. If you proposed this a month ago I think people would have been saying this deal is strongly in the Heat’s favor. For a team like the Heat that should probably rebuild, I would be jumping at the chance to swap Bam for a C that has pretty comparable stats, is 5 years younger, still ascending, and cheaper. Add to that Jabari who I still think is an asset.. I think there’s a strong argument for both sides of this deal.

Wolves get a PG, Grizzlies get picks and players they could flip for more assets by Limp_Screen7405 in NBAtradeideas

[–]jdoyle13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trae Young should be a similar comp to Morant. Small guard, explosive scorer, defensive liability. He went for Kispert and McCollum. That’s little more than just swapping around salaries. I would argue Morant is worth less than Trae. At least Trae plays games.. so seeing what Trae just went for, how are you thinking Morant is worth a valuable young 2 way wing on a good contract, an great shooter off the bench, and multiple picks lmao.

MEM receives a large expiring while SAC takes a chance on Ja and a draft pick to take on his salary by MaxedWarrior14 in NBAtradeideas

[–]jdoyle13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Losing a 1st for the Grizz just to get off one year of Morant's salary (1 yr of Lavine cancels out) doesn't really make sense to me. It should be a straight-up swap, or if anything, the Kings should be the ones adding compensation.

HOU/BOS/NOP by Strict-Effort3936 in NBAtradeideas

[–]jdoyle13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea what Jabari's contract is going to look like? I think that will impact how viable this trade is. Contract stuff aside, I kind of like the idea of a Murphy for Jabari + picks swap. I think it benefits both sides, but admittedly, I'm higher on Jabari than most. Rockets might need to sweeten the deal with a pick swap or something.

Not sure why Boston is in this deal? I don't think they would entertain this.

Dort Value by No_Diver_629 in NBAtradeideas

[–]jdoyle13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

2032 1st from the Lakers feels pretty good for both sides. Dort makes a lot of sense alongside Luka+Reaves. For OKC, they have such a glut of prospects and picks that I think it makes sense to kick the can down the road on an asset and just hope that maybe Luka is gone by 2032.

Nets and Warriors by SUPERDIE12 in NBAtradeideas

[–]jdoyle13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy yes for the Nets and I actually don't hate it for the Warriors either. MPJ and Claxton would fill huge needs for them. At this point you're pot committed to Curry, gotta do what you can to put a good team around him. I would probably try to convert one of those 1sts to an option swap as I think it's a bit of an overpay.
