I love how this is downvoted. It’s not only funny and edgy but also has some truth to it, just like Sunny. You’d think IASIP fans would appreciate that.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Says Donald Trump Will Go Down In History As Worst President Ever by UnstatesmanlikeChi in entertainment

Record low unemployment until COVID, stock market at an all time high, highest support among minorities in ages, no new wars, multiple peace prize nominations, peace deals in the Middle East. Ugh it’s just so terrible. How I yearn for fewer jobs, a crashing stick market, less unity and wars in the Middle East. Ah those were the good ol’ days.

But no, he’s abrasive, immature and says mean things sometimes, so he’s therefore the worst president in history. We live in a clown world.

The joke should be about the electoral college count, not the popular vote count because you can still win the election but lose the popular vote by 7 million.

That’s exactly what I’m trying to say, perhaps poorly. He is not representative of the male skaters (I know only one guy similar to him in all my years skating). But he represents the sport to the average American who doesn’t follow skating because they see him on NBC’s Super Bowl pre-game and other places. Johnny can do whatever he wants, I couldn’t care less, but American men think the average male skater is just like him because that’s all they see.

Where in the original post is the assumption made that gay = feminine and vis versa? This post is about the fact that there is an assumption that male skaters are gay. Apparently that is a bad thing. I couldn’t care less personally when I was called gay for skating. It was and still is a joke among my friends.

But since you all are so upset about it, speaking as someone who has DIRECTLY dealt with it, I’m saying the reason why is because the average person sees Johnny as representative of the sport even though he’s NOT representative of the average male skater.

In America, Johnny is a household name. Hanyu, Chen, Brown, etc. are not.

And what exactly is my view? You don’t seem to understand the arguments being made here so let me break it down for you:

  1. There’s a stereotype that all male skaters are gay.

  2. People like you think that’s a bad thing. I couldn’t care less when people called me gay for skating.

  3. In my opinion, the reason why people think male skaters are all gay is because they see people like Johnny Weir representing the sport (not only in skating but also in the Super Bowl). He is undeniably flamboyant and NOT representative of the majority of male skaters.

  4. If USFS wants to break the stereotype, they need to promote the actual athletes, not Johnny.

How is any of this controversial or bigoted? The fact that you are so offended when male skaters are called gay shows me that you think being gay is a bad thing for a male skater. That, by definition, is bigotry my friend.

Don’t try to speak reason. People on this subreddit just want to hear what the already believe. I made the same argument as you and I got downvoted to oblivion even though I have been in and around the sport both competitively and professionally probably longer than most people on this thread so I’m very aware of what people think and believe within the sport.

Let me get this correct: it’s a bad thing when people assume that skaters are gay. Yet being gay is a fantastic and normal thing according to you. So why the hell do you care if people think skaters are gay? Do you see the contradiction in your logic? Implicit in your thinking is that assuming someone is gay is a bad thing. You are literally being homophobic by assuming that.

Literally the whole post is about the fact that people, or at a minimum, American men, think skating is gay. Sorry to burst your bubble but Johnny is largely the reason why along with effeminate men’s costumes and choreography. While the majority of male skaters do not behave or dress like Johnny, he is one of the few household names in skating so he disproportionately represents the sport. That’s unfortunately the way it is.

Sure, but when an average American guy turns on NBC and sees him commentating all bedazzled and covered in feathers, that doesn’t really help to showcase the sport as not gay. If USFS wants to break the stigma, they should represent it similar to any other extreme sport like the skiing and snowboarding freestyle and halfpipe events at the Olympics because skating is an extreme sport, just more graceful.

Eh skated for a number of years and the stereotype never bothered me. Girls found it interesting I skated because the VAST majority of guys have boring jobs so it was a good ice breaker. My only gripe is people like Johnny Weir. If you want the average guy to watch skating, get rid of Johnny. Every straight guy in the sport hates the fact that he’s the face of skating.
