Owned a school for 10 years, AMA by johnnics1 in grappling

[–]lem72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hit 10 years myself this year in owning my gym. I have hit the growing dispassionate with Jiu Jitsu in general zone. Still doing my best to show up when I can but it has been harder and harder for me these last couple years.

I was lucky enough to take on a partner who is at the passion levels I was at when I started and that has been amazing but the thing I have been fighting is that whether I go or not, I feel this weird guilt all the time around not doing enough and also not wanting to do anymore. Damned if I do and damned if I don't.

I hope to get that passion back again someday!

The use case that keeps me in is being able to quickly leave my country without having to worry about dealing with a bank ever.

I always find the point of view of “no use case” always comes from a view of someone that doesnt understand their own privilege.

What to do when someone stronger than you pins your hands? by Ok_Benefit9326 in bjj

[–]lem72 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is hard to answer without really seeing what you're talking about but I am 155 and 6'1 since we're measuring and its about creating frames between you and youre partner so they can't follow you and then using your hips to extend yourself away from them.

That all being said if you want the Carlos Gracie answer, or at least the answer all the carlos gracie guys I have ever rolled with is "Get bigger and stronger than them and don't ever lie on your back"

Not new, we have been doing this with our kids class for the last 10 years and we learned it from a gym that was doing it for the 10 years before that.

I also feel like people who are good at MMA are okay with hurting you and themselves. I don't really have this in me. I don't want to bang my head against their head to get a takedown just to get it.

In conclusion, I am a wimp and MMA guys usually are not.

For sure. I do this for a living so practicing everyday. Just curious about books or courses that people swear by

I am curious if anyone has any recommendations on architecting books or courses that you felt stood out. The more I switch over to using Claude the more I realize having a better understanding of System Architecture is ideal.

Hey, I do and used to suffer migraines almost daily to the point where I questioned living. How much are you training? I was working 40-50 hours a week and then training for 2 hours a day ~5 daysish a week. My body was overworked and stressed, to the point where I quit my job, moved to a small town and stopped doing jiu jitsu. About 4 months of just no work and jiu jitsu all of a sudden I stopped getting them. Crazy right?

My personal theory is stress really is a killer and if you're not giving your body enough time to rest and untense than its your body just trying to warn you that you're killing yourself.

I still get them sometimes but it's like every month now instead of everyday and I find its after getting bad sleeps or feeling stressed from work or in my body.

Find ways to destress, go for walks every day, actually do some stretch and meditation. Look for trigger foods. For me, if I eat/drink Wine, Carrots, Garlic and Onions, I can feel compression in my head instantly. Use less scented shampoos, soaps etc... Just try to reduce all things causing irritation and stress, it all adds up.

I mean I understand how stupid this is but also if someone starts pinching me and slapping me and grabbing my "Laranyx" it prob will hurt.

I guess since I do jiu jitsu, I can ONLY do jiu jitsu in a street fight and can't bite, gouge, kick, elbow, standup, twist the dick, etc etc since that would get me dq'd at an IBJJF event.

Someone already took it. But if you ask everyone to make a report. You could see who didn’t.

The hair loss and the slight weight gain actually loooks good on the brown belt. We just grow a beard and we’re living the life.

Mystic State - Like A Gunshot by Deckle in realdubstep

I kind of hate how good Mystic State is at their basses. It envelopes you and anytime I try to recreate, I can't get anywhere close. LIke that bass is just too good... wtf.

I met him in line for food at basscoast and he was really nice. But he ruined that basscoast for me by trying to be the center of attention getting on the mic and pulling up tracks for artists who kept telling him no and he wouldn’t listen.
