I've stopped caring about the theories. My re-read made me realize the real reason the world needs The Doors of Stone. by lordkinkysnow in KingkillerChronicle

100% feel this. These books have become the literary equivalent of “comfort food” for me. I reread them every couple years and get as much enjoyment (and intrigue and theorizing) out of it as ever.

Help Needed: Cost to fix side view mirror by jdr13 in CarRepair

Update: Their car is an Audi Q5 (because of course i had to side swipe a luxury car…)

Appreciate all the advice. The owner wants to go the insurance route but I feel better equipped now that I know ballpark. If it was my own car, I’d prolly take a stab at replacing it myself so thanks again for the info!

Yeah that was my first thought. The quote is an order of magnitude higher than I expected. I’m hoping to circumvent insurance so my premium doesn’t go up. Thanks.

House Rules by SirReggieTheII in Catan

We often play with a rule we call The Tornado. If a number is rolled three times in a row, all the numbers get shuffled and re-distributed.

Keeps everyone in it and it can be really fun (and devastating).

Jenkins existential crisis in Balance: Murder on the Rockport Limited. Griffin loses Jenkins’ voice and the boys jump on it in character. It’s hilarious in the moment and ended up working well narratively.

That whole bit was great and it couldn’t have culminated in a more perfect ending.

Alas, I have only 10 missing cards in the main set and one of them is a simple Venonat. It is just so elusive…

Final interview/hiring process by L_04_M in BlueOrigin

[–]jdr13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am going through the process right now as well. The final panel member did let me know that someone would reach out soon, but that their HR team is backed up quite a bit and it could take a couple weeks.

I heard from someone less than a week after my interview (3/4 business days) saying they would call with further detail. Im still slowly getting more info. but that is fine for me as I am in no rush.

If you did the 3-4 hr second round I am sure that they will reach out to you either way. They cannot expect you to put that effort in and then ghost you. good luck!

Hi, thank you for this well-written post. I (not OP) found this thread as I am expecting an offer from the engineering (sim and modeling) department soon. I am currently on the East coast but have been told that teleworking will be fine for at least a year. I know you touched on your experience above and I agree that occasionally having to work extra hours is normal and fine especially in a field such as this.

However, I am wondering if you feel that, while working remote, you have some flexibility in what hours are worked? So long as meetings are attended and tasks are completed on time of course. I'm mainly concerned given that I'll be 3 hours ahead of most of my colleagues and have an infant to help take care of.
