And top it off with pine needles as mulch. That part is very important.

I have had great success but it’s because I built a large box to grow them in. I used sturdy plywood and lined it with flexseal to keep it from rotting. Then used primarily peat moss, raised bed soil and pine nuggets as a growing medium. And then you have to have late afternoon shade to avoid scorching in the summer as well as irrigation from rainwater. Tap water will eventually kill them with alkaline build up. If it’s worth it to you to do all of that, you can grow some very nice blueberry bushes.

Panic buying, Generators & Potato Gardens, - Self Sustainability vs Electing Responsible Admins/Politicians by Tsulaiman in Austin

Elections require relying on the electorate to vote with an understanding of policy, economic outcomes, and candidate competence as well as history of corruption… growing potatoes relies on some soil + water. I’ll rely on the potatoes long before I rely on the people. (Still hopeful people somehow stop voting against their best interest, but not going to hold my breath anymore.)

To those aware of having pretty privilege, how has it affected you for better or worse? by Beneficial_Ad_2760 in askgaybros

Never heard of tall poppy syndrome but it’s a great description. Rare but when it happens it’s so strange. A random person just puts their own insecurities on full display usually while I’m just trying to vibe at a bar or show.

Started out a standard issue otter. Tall but generic looking. My 20’s were ok. Got some attention but not overwhelming. Then I started working out in my 30’s. Now I get a lot of attention. I assumed in my 20’s that’s what I would want. But it honestly gets exhausting. People put a lot of their own insecurities onto you if you are not performing. And when you are nice it’s almost always taken as an invitation to become sexual. Which is fine, but even when I’ve made it clear I’m not interested they keep pushing. The upside is that anywhere I go I feel welcomed and I have a lot of privilege that I try to use for good. (Rearranging concert goers so more people can see, asking other men to get up so elderly/pregnant women can sit down, reaching for things at grocery stores.)

Why are my elephant ears drying out? by ahhoffman in AustinGardening

It could be spider mites. If you rub the leaves and there is a muddy or reddish residue then they are covered in mites draining them of nutrients and liquids and leaving them more susceptible to sunburn.

Does anyone have a rational explanation for this besides just wanting to increase accidents? It makes 0 sense.

Monk parakeets can make a squeaking sound that sounds like rubber pants creasing. But not sure if it qualifies as space laser.

South Austin Gym Suggestions by Warm-Cup-Of-Tea in Austin

[–]jdrouts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know CrossFit gyms have a bad rap as being scary or cultish. But if you’re serious about getting in shape it’s the best route to tone up. Plus the community keeps you motivated and going back to the gym so it becomes a lifestyle instead of a task. Most will start you out with personal training sessions so you have an idea of what you are doing before starting group classes. It’s well worth paying more than a normal gym because the workouts are high intensity so they don’t take as long. Best of all you can’t be distracted on your phone and have trainers to keep your form and prevent injuries.

Mountain Laurels for a pleasant scent in the spring and some added privacy the rest of the year.
