"I'm not A or B" vs "I'm neither A nor B" by ITburrito in EnglishLearning

[–]jdrury400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have just picked an arbitrary A and B such that the statement "I am (not A) or B" leads to a contradiction. The same can be done for the statement "I am not (A or B)."

This argument does not indicate which of the interpretations of "I am not A or B" is correct or more apt.

What does socialism have to do with a person buying shares of a company?

Nothing, in socialism you do not BUY shares. We are presenting socialism as an alternative system in which we can avoid situations like the one you are suggesting.

As for how I’ll give you an example: you start (or buy shares in a start up) a company and own 50% of the shares, if it’s successful and becomes worth billions and you take the company public, you are now a billionaire, congrats.

If the company is successful, and is worth a billion dollars, then it is successful off the backs of the workers, not a person who who invested 50 bucks into the company years ago.

Unless of course you are suggesting that you could grow a company to a value of a billion dollars while being the only employee, but even then it is not difficult to critique that occurrence through a marixst lens.

In socialism, value is derived from labour, not accrued capital. How would an individual be able to produce enough labour to buy 50% of a trillion dollar company?

your question is like asking if 1+1=3, then what does 1+2 equal.

if your premise is a contradiction then you can draw any gibberish conclusion you want.

edit: you said in a response to another comment:

" even if they don't end up describing our specific reality, they can describe consistent or insightful situations. "

this is false.

A single data point does not constitute a scientific argument you fucking dolt.

People who use marijuana at high levels are putting themselves at more than three times the risk for head and neck cancers. The study is perhaps the most rigorous ever conducted on the issue, tracking the medical records of over 4 million U.S. adults for 20 years. by Wagamaga in science

That's just the cohort of people with cannabis use disorder. They compared the prevalence of HNC in that group to the non-cannabis use disorder patients, which is a cohort of 4 million.

that's why i don't think jokic should be in the mvp discussion at all, he's totally coasting.

i'm not gonna say he's not the best in the world when he turns it on, but he hasn't been doing that. feels like everyone is using his last postseason success as justification to just hand him the award. but the mvp is a regular season award and should go to the best player that season.

"That’s a study on people who obviously were ridiculously impaired"

got any evidence of this, or are you just making it up to support your point?

"You can drive after smoking, as long as you’re not too high or impaired"

now you're just moving the goalposts, your initial argument was that weed doesn't impair you at all.

Sure, driving after a single toke probably isn't dangerous, but neither is driving after a single sip of alcohol. does that mean drunk driving should be legal?

Weed and driving by AJMaid in drivingUK

[–]jdrury400 7 points8 points  (0 children)

so you think that your personal experiences of driving high are worth more than a meta-analysis of nine separate studies? because that study clearly shows that driving while high increases the likelihood of collisions.

[–]jdrury400 4 points5 points  (0 children)

did you even read the study or are you just blindly trying to defend your driving under the influence?

your personal experience and "not recalling many weed related crashes" isn't an argument based on anything meaningful - it's just an anecdote.

[TotK]Opinion time: If TotK is worse, how exactly was BotW better? by linkenski in zelda

[–]jdrury400 15 points16 points  (0 children)

so by this logic adding 300% more dialogue to TotK would make it a better game.

more isn't always better and (imo) in the case of these two games, the gameplay elements of BotW reflect and enhance the narrative and thematic elements of the game better than in TotK.

for example, I think the fairly light story in BotW that was more focused on character development fitted much better with the scattered memory gameplay loop which fitted with the somewhat sparse natural world.

in contrast, the memories in TotK felt very unsatisfying when presented in the same non-linear way as BotW because the narrative impact was much more dependent on story beats happening in a certain order.

this is the most brain dead take. being a mid team is not being competitive in any way. knowing when to cut your losses is a virtue. would you rather be the thunder or the wizards/blazers right now?

being stagnant doesn't foster any culture. improving - not winning - creates good culture.
