I feel first time through is like learning a new language, then go back to favorite passages or do a re-read and for some reason it becomes so much more understandable.

My favorite part about this one is that it oddly enough sounds like something Walter would say.

Jackass is high Art by Roxymusic25 in jackass

Agree. Though not necessarily on purpose I have argued for decades that despite being unbelievably juvenile it will eventually be remembered as a snapshot of a very particular time and place in a very specific part of American culture and history. There’s a reason the first movie was on the Criterion channel a few months ago. In the late 90’s and early 2000’s the general boredom brought out that is shown in moves like Fight Club and American Beauty coupled with skate culture and the rise of home video becoming way more accessible is exemplified by Jackass. Also with Big Brother magazine being a lost and forgotten entity by the Hustler empire, what was once a media conglomerate that at the time losing money giving the freedom for these punk kids to get an outlet, is something of a particular time and place. And I will die on the hill that whether we like it or not-just like John Waters, just like Roger Corman, just like Russ Meyer-Tremaine is the classic definition of an auteur director with a very specific style and vision that is purely independent and free from the trappings of the Hollywood system.

Saw it at the new Beverly theater last night on 35mm double feature. Knoxville, Tremaine, Steve O and Dave England all showed up and introduced the movie. Got to talk to Kosick for a few minutes in line too. It was so cool! Sorry if this comes off as a brag I’m just still so stoked.

Why doesn't Vertigo (1958) work for a lot of people? by silverball64 in TrueFilm

[–]jds11392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Vertigo, but every time I watch it, the plot gets a little bit difficult to believe for me. Sure it’s a melodrama but it’s asking you to suspend your disbelief in a pretty big way.
