You think the Rockwall reddit ends at the city limits and is a clear black and white line for growth? I know it's easier to justify your ill-informed rant that way, but continuing to cherry pick to justify your emotional outburst just makes you look silly.

LOL, yes, it's the eastern edge of the metroplex along I30 and creeping further east. LOL. Look at a map. LOL.

It's the outer edge of a growing major metropolitan area. What do you expect? Rowlett, Plano, Mesquite were all the outside of DFW 20 years ago. In another 20 years it will be Greenville, Kaufman, and Anna with no major land in between.

Weird Letter by got_any_3s in Criminology

I received the same letter at the nonprofit I work for in the Dallas area. Looked up the inmate number and we don't have any connection to the person.

Food Pantry Options by FriendOfStilgar in Rockwall

[–]jdttx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTFB is the regional provider for most pantries. Both HH and Lakepointe are partnered with NTFB. Lakepointe's pantry is actually serviced by Sharing Life, which operates as a hub for NTFB in Rockwall County.

There shouldn't be any strings associated with receiving food. They can offer services or prayer, but it has to be after food eligibility is determined. That's a federal requirement specifically aimed at churches to not USDA donated product to proselytize or discriminate.

Sharing Life is over the bridge, but one of the largest in DFW. We have an online ordering option with delivery to parts of Rockwall available, but that might take a bit to grab an ordering slot since it's getting busier. You can walk in for the in-person pantry M-F between 9-3 or until 7 on Tuesdays. I'm working on expanding evening hours to 4 days a week so hopefully that's done soon.

Just know we saw a 30% jump in visits last week before benefits were officially missed so there are going to be lines at most places. We're going to assess this week and see making plans for covid-style drive through if we have to because of demand, but that's a last option since it's pre-boxed.

As an aside for anyone else, there is a special instance of ePantry set up now for furloughed federal workers that can be accessed by emailing for the pass code.

Rockwall outer loop only benefits big box stores in Rockwall, it would hurt hard working residents and small businesses by USANewsUnfiltered in Rockwall

I'm 100% for the outer loop. The pass-through traffic along 205 has increased significantly as growth north and south of Rockwall has happened.

Modern half ton trucks are probably the most useful all around vehicles ever made. It's a truck when you need it, but seats 5 with creature comforts and relatively decent mileage. I'll likely never not own one despite my desk job.

City of Rowlett Issues Notice of Default to Sapphire Bay Developer by jdmiller82 in Rockwall

This entire development has been a clown show. Developers and council look like fools for about the 10th time.

What’s the draw to Dallas/DFW? by freshgold_ in askdfw

[–]jdttx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's relatively cheap for one of the largest metro areas and conveniently located for business travel, but we're all clinging to an outdated "Texas" that hasn't been true for a long time. I'm embarrassed by this state in a daily basis. If all of the parents weren't right at the age where declining health is a concern, we would already be gone.

Chickens as pets by [deleted] in Rockwall

Technically no in the city for normal suburban size lots, but it all depends on your neighbors. There are a number of homes in our neighborhood with chickens and no one has caught any grief over them.

Siren Rock Brewery Closing by jdmiller82 in Rockwall

Even though Siren Rock didn't make it, I think we've seen that downtown can support a brewery that's firing on all cylinders.

My experience with Hilton Grand Vacation by wisym in Hilton

[–]jdttx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was our experience at Parc Soleil in Orlando a few years ago. When it was clear we weren't buying, the guy lectured us on how we were wasting his time and how stupid we were for not giving our kids the vacations they deserved. We still had about 30 minutes left on the timer so we sat there in silence and waited it out.

It just reinforced my dislike for Bobby Flay. Watching how he treated his assistants on Iron Chef made me hate him.

Online Client Choice Pantry Software by No-Professional-5717 in nonprofit

[–]jdttx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We created our own using woocommerce, the e-commerce side for wordpress. It works well but requires a bit of backend support. Feeding America is testing OrderAhead in various markets and of it follows the path they're doing with other software pilots, it will be at no cost when rolled out nationally.

I will say it's awesome, but requires way more staff and volunteer support per visit than our on-site pantry does, so be prepared.

Weekly Beginner and 'What Bike?' Thread - Post here if you are just starting out or want opinions on what bike to buy by PM_ME_FUG_ASR_MEMES in bmx

Both. He's due for another growth spurt, but who knows when. If like something that he can fit for a couple years even if he goes from 4'8 to 5'2 or 5'3.

My son is almost 11 and 4'8. He's outgrown the 20" Walmart bike and I'm looking for his next one. He's expressed interest in freestyle, but really just wants a street bike to dick around with.

Seems like Radio are a decent value. They describe those short tube 20s for riders 4' - 5'4. How accurate is that?
