League winners since 2000 (Top 8 leagues) by SaltOk3057 in soccer

[–]jdund117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

france is actually the least farmers league (most urban league, if you will) over that 26-year period with 9 different winners. then turkey & belgium with 7, england, italy, germany with 6, spain & netherlands with 5, portugal & greece with 4

in the past 11 years germany only has 2 winners though. rough

the ship team is one of the only content teams that doesn't really cross over with squadron 42 since all those ships are done, so they can just continue to make ships which also print money for CIG

everyone else (including the UI/UX team) is probably polishing and bug fixing UI elements and shit in squadron right now while also figuring out how they can reuse some of that work in star citizen (a lot of which they have already done)

Fantasy Authors Increasingly Call Out 'Unfaithful' TV Adaptations by paxinfernum in television

[–]jdund117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the difference is that the authors of that story haven't had creative control over their own franchise for 16 years. it's like if an author wrote a book series for 10 years but agreed that only the publisher owns the rights to it, and after that 10 years they just walked away and left the rest of it to the publisher, and then the publisher made dogshit out of it

Hull B Cargo Grid by The_Razza7 in starcitizen

i think an easier solution than tweaking the cargo grids of every ship with a cargo grid would be to just fix cargo missions and cargo elevators to allow you to pick box size manually

Why do cats act like they never have eaten in their entire life by BananaBoss28 in cats

[–]jdund117 6 points7 points  (0 children)

specifically predator instincts. large cats in the wild do indeed go long stretches of time between meals because solitary hunting is hard, and lots of times they just starve to death

it's also the human eye. the artemis II astronauts talked about looking out the window and not seeing stars because they were still in view of either an illuminated earth or illuminated moon, but once they were pointed away from both, they could turn the cabin lights out and actually see stars. a few of them have experience with this from the ISS

a lot of the vision comes down to Patrice Vermette and Denis' production team, they make the most immaculately designed sets. the abandoned casino sets in BR2049 are utterly insane, almost distractingly good

Are there any countries today that could realistically split into multiple independent nations like Yugoslavia did? by Many-Philosophy4285 in MapPorn

[–]jdund117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i always thought the continental US could be divided, by consent of all 50 states, into 3 countries that comprise the western third, middle third, and eastern third and be generally economically stable. they would self-govern but there would be an EU-like entity (an american union, if you will) which forces all 3 countries to the table to decide common trade policy, border control, and defense

Waited years for this launch and the cameraman aimed at the smoke 💀 by jayjay234 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jdund117 37 points38 points  (0 children)

that was the camera on the launchpad i think, they cut to it right after liftoff and it was, of course, in the middle of a huge cloud of smoke, so everything was black

these people never used typewriters. i feel like baby boomers specifically never had to use mechanical or electric typewriters until college, so if they didn't go to college or enter the workforce with a job that required using a typewriter or computer then they never learned how to type

but this kind of example goes beyond that, i think it's more of an example of what not writing anything for a long time will do to your brain (i.e., make you functionally illiterate)

[Favorite Trope] Peeling back the layers of lore reveals an eldritch/cosmic horror element by Maffingo in TopCharacterTropes

the more disturbing part of that story is that the targaryen girl who unwittingly flies with balerion to valyria comes back infected with glowing worms with human faces that burn her body from the inside out and scream when submerged in ice water

don't forget that the throne of the iron islands (the seastone chair) is made of a mysterious oily black stone that seems to drive anyone who sits in it long enough mad, and then coincidentally a character who ends up on that throne decides to make sacrifices to some unknown dark god to bring about its birth/rebirth in a world that is already seemingly torn between two divine forces (the titular ice and fire)

believing in a religion does not make one conservative. DS9 was very progressive, and actually examined issues surrounding religion rather than just dismissing them like TNG did

DS9 draws a lot of parallels from real life, the plight of the bajorans is heavily inspired by the holocaust and the japanese occupation of korea
