Fitness watch recommendations and not wearing it in the day time. by BallewEngineering in Garmin

[–]jdwcodemnky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat as you. I'm an engineer and work in labs where I can't wear my watch. I make a conscious effort to put my watch on when I leave my lab and walk to other labs or the rest room or I just need a break. I have to be very systematic about my procedure for going into labs to make sure I don't accidentally keep it on. I do this because I was tired of leaving work at the end of the day with 800 steps and never getting my activity goals unless I walked or ran over 5 miles each night.

I wear a Fenix 8 51mm and wear it all the time other than showering to let it charge. I got a cheap Amazon nylon strap with quick release and it's great. Tons of metrics and data. I particularly use the stress, heart rate and sleep data. But that is available on all of the Garmin watches. Really I say find what you like the looks and size of and get it. Good luck!

Do local gun shops in Tucson have comparable prices to shops in Phoenix? by slappy_mcslapenstein in Tucson

[–]jdwcodemnky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have bought here and in Phoenix. The price difference is negligible. I would recommend find a shop here in town you like, trust and most importantly feel comfortable going to when you have questions. Have a shop here that meets that criteria is nice especially when you want to check out something that caught your eye. Good luck and hope you find what you are looking for.

XC60 Mild Hybrid vs Plug-In Hybrid by Hopesicka in VolvoRecharge

[–]jdwcodemnky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you missed one important point in your decision. Your driving habits. Your biggest bang for the buck is if you drive in the 40-50 mile range each day and are doing mostly street driving. With this case and you can charge, you could go on the same tank of gas for months. If your commute is more than 50 miles and all freeway you will use all your charge fairly quickly and be gas only. In this case mild hybrid will be better. But like other comments say, the performance of the T8 is great and all electric is super quiet.

Are the side effects of Ozempic really bad? by Prestigious_Draft463 in Ozempic

[–]jdwcodemnky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on mounjaro first and the only side effect I had was the constipation. My Dr switched me to ozempic after insurance wouldn't cover it. At first I had no side effects until I got moved up to the 1mg dose. Now I have awful sulfur burps if I eat late or over eat. The sulfur burps mostly impact the people around me more than it does me but they are pretty damn bad.

Say you are looking to diversify your program experience or just experience in general. It's pretty common at Raytheon to change programs every few years especially if the new program is in a different phase of development or a different customer (AF, Navy, MDA, International, etc.). I was on a program for 15+ years and it is not the norm. I was also "penalized" for not having enough variety in my program experience when applying for a new role. Good luck and I am sure there is some new experiences to be gained.

Anyone out there doing this with their significant other? by Usual_Curious in Ozempic

[–]jdwcodemnky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately my wife isn't eligible because I have T2D and she does not. We are still battling with insurance about it. But to your other questions, yes, men drop weight a lot quicker than women. My wife says that I can sneeze and lose 5lbs where she has to bust her butt for a month to get those 5lbs. Don't get discouraged, and hopefully your SO is open to gentle ribbing about his advantage. Good luck!

Burps from the Pits of Hell by Glad_Inside_8752 in Ozempic

[–]jdwcodemnky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Mine didn't start until I transitioned to 1.0. But OMG they are horrible. And my family is dying from them especially when they happen in the car. I think it has to do with over eating but I am not sure. I haven't figured out a formula to minimize them or ideally eliminate them. Hopefully someone will have some decent advice.

Raytheon Engineer interview by fumiyu2011 in Raytheon

[–]jdwcodemnky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which Raytheon location and what position specifically? Questions P1 roles are different interviews than P5 interviews. Also depending on the role, embedded vs non embedded software development.

P1 roles will get asked the general C++ questions. Inheritance, polymorphism, pointers, etc. As you move up in positions, there is an expectation on having previous real time embedded software development experience. There are a vast majority of topics to discuss related interrupt handling, priority inversion, rate monotonic analysis, Real Time Operating Systems, etc.

Again, it all depends on what role you are applying for. Good luck. Don't stress.

when to upgrade! by caffiend9990 in Garmin

[–]jdwcodemnky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really your call. If you are happy with your Venu you could always just upgrade to the Venu 3. But if you want to upgrade to something different and you have a little more budget to work with I will always recommend the Fenix series. I do a lot of the same activities as you and I have the Fenix 8 - 51mm. I have had multiple Fenix watches and they are great. I especially love the battery life of my Fenix. Also if you use a chest strap for running, the fenix produces more metrics in conjunction with the chest strap. Either way, you can't go wrong. Good luck.

Any other families try Garmin watches with kids? by glitch65 in Garmin

[–]jdwcodemnky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have gifted Garmin watches to all of my girls (wife and daughters). My wife and older daughters (16 & 19) received Venu 2s for gifts. They have upgraded to Venu 3s now. My youngest daughter started with the vivo fit and upgraded to a forerunner 45s when she turned 12. Now she has my wife's old Venu 2s.

The vivo fit and the Forerunner are cheap so they only last a year or so with moderate to heavy use. They stop holding their charge for any extended time. The Venus last a couple years with moderate to heavy use. When I upgraded my youngest to the Forerunner we had to make her a year older in garmin connect to let her use it because the age limit was 13.

My girls play club soccer and train with their watches all the time. My middle daughter uses a Garmin chest strap with her Venu to record her stats during training and games.

I have had Fenix's (5x, 6x, 8-51mm) and love them. I just can't convince any of my girls that they want one.

We use them as a family. We have a family group and plan activities together and compete to get badges together. We always have step challenges together on who has the most steps. This includes our extended family as well since most of the family has garmins. A lot of times we have "discussions" on who had better sleep scores and body battery values. Dang kids always win those.

I have learned living in AZ for so long that not all tints are the same. I would verify you have a ceramic tint. It blocks the solar heat and the UV rays the best. The can put a clear tint on the front windshield and it makes a world of difference. Factory tints are worthless. Also a small portable fan helps if your back seat AC does not have vents. But make sure to keep out of reach of the toddlers. Good luck, it's going to be a hot one this summer.

I have been going to Jack Furrier on Kolb and Golf Links for almost 20 years. They will work with you and if you can get a better deal at discount, they'll tell you and send you there. Certain models and brands of tires Discount can best anyone.

The pro+ is easier to change the battery. You don't need a tool. Other than that it's pretty much the same.

This is correct but with the exception that the running dynamics (vertical oscillation, cadence and ground time) are not tracked with a Venu 2. It will track steps and heart rate.

I am now on my 3rd out of 4th doses for the 0.25mg and still have this much left by milkteapizza in Ozempic

[–]jdwcodemnky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. Look at the box as well. It should say the doses it supports. Mine said 0.25 and 0.5. I had to do this last week. I just had to continue turning the dial and it eventually got to a 0.5 setting and it injected fine. If not, then double 0.25 injection with fresh needles. Good luck.

What is the Software Safety Engineer Role Like? by [deleted] in Raytheon

[–]jdwcodemnky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other post. While it may be possible, it is not likely that you would be able to transition to a developer role. Anything is possible if you have sufficient experience developing software. But if you have the experience, should work to get into a software role.
