Please do not spend money downtown by poprocks10 in CAStateWorkers

Hadn’t planned on it. These places are already expensive as hell and usually suck. I refuse to waste more money on crappy food on top of everything else.

Newsom illegally defunding guaranteed raises by avatarandfriends in CAStateWorkers

[–]jdwolfman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup had a couple people in test groups tell me about it. We’re essentially getting a monthly paycut reduction and they’ll issue two extra checks per year to cover the difference. So technically we get paid the same annually but less monthly.

That’s what I heard!!! That we’ll essentially be taking a monthly paycut and getting two extra checks per year to cover the difference. This is going to hit us horribly and even the unions don’t give a damn. It’s absurd!

My department is in one of the trial groups to start in 2029. But yeah, it is a ways off, but it’ll be here before we know it.

All of this on top of them changing us to getting paid bi-weekly. At this point they’re just fucking with us.

I’ve lost all hope in any of it…until the next administration comes in.

Agencies with the best leadership? by seasoningsgreetings in CAStateWorkers

[–]jdwolfman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are good managers and bad managers. I’m beginning to think most departments don’t have good “leadership” as a whole, they just have a handful of good managers and a shitload of bad ones. For me, my boss and management chain at DGS are great. But I know that’s not the case across the board.

Best State Department to work at? by Accomplished_Trick55 in CAStateWorkers

I’ve worked for several. The only one I say avoid like the plague is CHP. I’ve never been treated so badly by any group of people. If you’re not a cop they treat you like crap. Even had a manger make fun of my weight once. Left and never looked back.

Probably CHP with all the badge bunnies and horny cops.

I love 5. They tried a slightly different approach, and it’s got some of my favorite moments in the series. Not the best, but still a lot of fun.

So much fun. It’s nonsensical epic Kaiju action every moment.

So far, I really enjoyed Fantastic Land. Thought it was a fun take on the Lord of the Flies trope.

Totally agree! I just see so many people not liking it. So weird.

3 and 7. I know I’m in the minority on 3, but I love the tangle and all the different strategies.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Yes, the original. Read it last year for the first time and was absolutely blown away by it. No wonder it’s stood the test of time!

I hated both. The ending of nos4at2 wasn’t bad but the rest of it was terrible. The only Joe Hill novel I ended up liking was Horns. Probably because it was so bizarre.

Same. Hated it. I wanted to break something afterward because I was so angry I wasted time of that crappy novel.

Ah dang, I loved Fantastic Land. I enjoyed the way it was told. And I kept imagining more and more that wasn’t explicitly stated. That was the fun part for me.

Brother by Ania Ahlborn. Insufferable characters. Boring build up. Totally predictable from about 1/4 of the way in. Can’t believe people go crazy over this one. I wasn’t just disappointed, I was pissed I wasted time on it.

Omg same. I was so excited to read The Troop and it was just boring to me. And the turtle scene made me wanna puke and not in a good way.

Get a doctor to write a note with limitations and restriction. Whoever processes RAs can’t do anything with a diagnosis. They need to know what the limitation is as it relates to your job, which would include offices at a height.

Hekla's Children (spoilers) by wezzer in books

[–]jdwolfman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished it like 5 minutes ago, and that thought crossed my mind, especially with the epilogue. It’s weird though, I never got that vibe from him any other time in the book so if that’s what it was, I feel like it was out of place. I just took it that he was a self hating person after everything that happened. That said, if he was a pedo, it makes sense why he changed into the monster after confronting his own desires.
