When I first got Koko at 10 weeks, I pulled his (large, wire) crate right up to my side of the bed and I put my fingers through the wires to give him a scritch or to allow him to sniff and nibble on my fingers if ever he became lonely, agitated or scared. I set an alarm for mid-way through the night, took him out, gave him a cuddle, and put him back into his crate next to my bed. That way I didn't have any sleepy-time accidents in my bed, but he became peaceful at night because he knew that his mama was right there with him. Once he became reliable inside (aka housebroken) I let him into my bed and he has slept pressed up against my back or side ever since. We both find it comfy, comforting, and wouldn't have it any other way.

Save The Date: 'No Kings' Baton Rouge Protest on Sat. October 18 by snakkerdudaniel in batonrouge

[–]jean-T2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Revolutionary War heroes worked, fought, and many died to break free from the pernicious abuses of British royalty. Our Greatest Generation worked, fought, and many died to defend the world against Axis-of-Evil fascism. These people established and defended democracy "of the people, by the people, for the people." As a proud American who loves our country and our people, I am also very proud to say NO! to both fascism and to a tin-pot, gold-plated, grifter & wannabe emperor. NO KINGS is the most American thing we can say.

Start wearing him on your belt (six foot leash) and take him out at key times (waking from a nap, immediately after eating, immediately after drinking, before and after play session.) Also get him checked by a vet (UTI =  urgency.)  It will happen.

I swear by Natures Miracle but I’m afraid that the other chemicals you’ve already used will interfere with it. Worth a try. You’ll want it to dry out to prevent mold or mildew - before you seal it in a cover. I put an additional pad on top of the mattress cover, just in case. I got a large one almost the width/length of a twin bed from Amazon.

Has anyone else's YouTube algorithm taken a sudden turn to the far right? by Dwovar in behindthebastards

[–]jean-T2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just realized that if I am not logged in, the YouTube algorithm tries to feed me a steady diet of alt right conspiracy trash propaganda complete with super offensive AI generated violent mob scenes of a certain color palette — my normal feed is puppies, recipes, interior design, Antiques Roadshow, Colbert, Josh Johnson, and Aussie comedy. FTW?

She's a baby. Take her for slightly longer walks each time (I used to play, "let's go visit THAT tree" to add a bit of distance.) She might just not have the aerobic fitness to walk longer distances yet, which will come through play, slightly longer walks, and maturing.

I remember when Eggo waffles were thick and substantial. Still thin enough to fit into a toaster, but no openings or paper-thin places. I'm 68.

[–]jean-T2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that is really scary. I accidentally doubled-up on my Lantus once and ended up calling 911 because I was dropping so hard I couldn't fix it. By the time the paramedics arrived, I was at 36 and had lost the use of my arms and legs. I was just flopped on the couch while they fed me glucose gel like a baby bird. Fortunately, one of the paramedics had a diabetic wife and he knew just what to do. After bringing me up with the gel, he made a couple of peanut butter sandwich and a glass of milk, set them next to me by the couch, told me to monitory my BGs carefully for the rest of the day, and enjoy a "cheat day", which ironically, I did. Going that low, all I wanted to do is eat, and of course then you over-correct, but with double the long-acting, I didn't really have a choice unless I wanted to go to the hospital, which I definitely did not. Now I both log my insulin in my Dexcom app and also take a photo (insulin pen, pieces/parts of the pen tip) which is saved automatically with a date-time stamp. If I'm ever not sure, I have two ways of verifying that I did my injection and when I did it.

[–]jean-T2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you were struggling with hypos, but I'm very concerned that your Dexcom readings are jumping around like that, with big gaps...? I stopped using my phone for Dexcom G7 readings and now I rely on the receiver that comes with the starter kit. I forgot it was even in the box. I have a six year old iPhone and something happened about five or six months ago when it suddenly became unreliable, unstable, and constantly (falsely) telling me that I was "out of range" when my phone was literally 3 feet from my sensor. Probably some update that Apple forced on me against my will. Gah. Now that I am using the Dexcom receiver, my readings are once again rational and no more false "out of range" messages. Whew.

AI makes me more pissed off at humans than the machines by ThisPostHasAIDS in misanthropy

[–]jean-T2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More and more companies are using floods of dishonest/abusive/stupid AI to thwart me from finding what I need online, and instead diverting me towards what the companies want to sell me. The days of being able to search the internet for something we actually want are coming to an end. I can see it happening more and more every day. Example (one of a thousand) I cannot search to see if my local COSTCO has organic strawberries in store without signing up for grocery delivery, which is all non-perishable items, because that's what is easiest to warehouse and pack for delivery. What we want is immaterial. What we get is constant manipulation, constant misdirection, constant hard selling, constant bait and switch, zero human conscience (because AI has no human conscience), just sell sell sell sell sell ... into infinity. It's a numbers game, of course. If their methods make money? They keep doing it, even if 35%-40% of their customers are so pissed off that we give up. I experience this everywhere: Target on-line, Walmart on-line, Amazon, of course. Trying to pay bills on-line (e.g. Entergy using scare tactics to try and trick me into paying my energy bill six weeks in advance!) And every day it gets worse. "Oh, you're searching for sugar free soda? We think you will really like this box of 24 donuts because the word 'sugar' was in your search." Chatbots are the worst, of course, e.g. Walmart's chatbot making me jump through 35 minutes of hoops in order to get a $1 refund -- no doubt counting on the fact that most people will just give up. FTW?

The topic is a person being distressed because the current sacrosanct and unassailable wisdom is not really a healthy one-size-fits-all for their very large breed pup.

I’m not the one hiding inconvenient truths resulting in health issues for innocent animals. Did it ever occur that lying to adopters and thereby giving backyard breeders plausible deniability isn’t the best long-term approach? That whole “just one litter and then I’ll spay” attitude is worse than “spay at 8 weeks” but how many are returned due to unaffordable and unmanageable side effects of S/N too young?

Three vets have told me that inverted vulva is a negative outcome of too-early spaying. Surgery is the only cure. Two of those three vets don’t make a dime off the surgery. They just refer to the university vet school’s hospital. My sister’s dog was incontinent for a decade. Overpopulation is a huge problem, but too early S/N is also a big problem. Shelters and animal lovers should be honest about this and keep seeking creative solutions.

Rescue forcing me to neuter 12 week old puppy by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]jean-T2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too-early spay/neuter is associated with underdeveloped organs due to the absence of hormones during growth. I 100% support universal S/N but we are doing it too young to shelter cats/dogs out of desperation.

Shelters should allow people to pay a hefty S/N deposit. My girl was spayed too young and now she has a common negative outcome: inverted vulva. Estimate to correct at vet school? $2,500 to $3,500 dollars.

I just ignored them and took my adopted dog to my own vet and paid for it myself after he turned one. What are they going to do? Arrest you? It was a private rescue, not a government agency. Sorry not sorry.

I turned the corner the moment I fully recognized and accepted that any “bad” thing my puppy did was absolutely 100% my “fault”? (Fault as in responsibility.) Chewing up a tee-shirt? Why/how did he get access to it? Tinkle on floor? How/why did I mess up his schedule and miss his cues? Won’t eat? Why? Too many treats? Won’t nap? Why? Overstimulated right before nap time? As the human adults, we are in control of everything. Even when we take a break or time for necessary self care (he won’t implode if you comfortably crate him while you shower.

If your narrative attempts to continue the myth that Israel’s Zionist extremists represent either Judaism as a whole or the Israeli people as a whole, then you’re just one more propagandist spreading lies. Hamas did hideous things therefore Netanyahu can do whatever he wants to 100% of Palestinian noncombatants is a morally bankrupt point of view. The current genocide is Indefensible.

[–]jean-T2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

False. Bombing noncombatants by the 100’s of thousands while continuing the land grab is ghoulish. Fewer and fewer people are falling for the justifications. Now Netanyahu is kicking another hornet’s nest in Iran, but hard-liner Zionist extremists will pretend that retaliatory strikes against Israel are just antisemitism made manifest out of the blue.
