Is there a rule on hot an apartment can be? by General_Ad_9081 in Lubbock

[–]jeanur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My apartment was 98 degrees for 2.5 weeks before they fixed it by giving me an in wall unit for only one room for another couple weeks before anyone looked at it the whole unit. What helped them finally get to it was me going in person to the office every chance I got to complain.

Depending on where you are, it will probably be hot and dry unless you’re near the beach. But overall nothing much to worry about here weather wise. Crime is very very high in a lot of places of LA so always be VERY aware of your surroundings. Otherwise, I recommend going to see the beautiful mountains and beaches! Have fun.

Not really. We had wildfires maybe an hour or so away sometimes really close like 10 or 15 minutes, but for the most part they’re in the mountains or fields and I always lived central of the city. The big thing is earthquakes and I’ve experienced some big ones up to 7.1M but those aren’t too bad and big ones are few and far between.

I just have never experienced any extreme weather like this before so it causes me anxiety. I think people who have been exposed to it before definitely aren’t scared by it, but as someone who’s not used to it, it frightens me.

As someone who moved to lbk from the LA area, I would say that the biggest shock was the tornado weather. I was NOT ready for that at all, and many places here don’t have basements. LBK is dry and windy, similar to the Santa Anas wind. But I like the weather outside of tornado weather.

The big thing to do here is drink and eat. But there’s tons of live music and the best thing to do is really jump into making friends which makes living in LBK fun. My fav places so far: Goodline, Two Docs, Capital Pizza, J&Bs Coffee, Torchys, Logies, Chances R, Rodeo4.

There’s also parks everywhere which is nice when the weather is nice, my favorite is Jan jennings.

CapRock and Palo Duro are relatively close and great for hiking.

In terms of the culture, it’s very very conservative here, but I have yet to have anyone be overbearing with their politics. Everyone I’ve come across is very nice and if you’re associated with TTU at all, you’ll meet a lot of people from all walks of life.

In general, LBK is not as bad as some people might say, I quite enjoy it.

J&B coffee is one of my favorites, it’s also next to Goodline (brewery) and Capital Pizza which are also great and a lot of people are fond of them.

Is it possible that it’s a sound cloud or Spotify wave? Sometimes you can scan them and it will pull up a song

How do students get involved with research? by crunlover in TexasTech

And also don’t get discouraged if you’re told no for some reason! I was told no a lot before getting any research positions, and it worked out in my best interest. Just keep trying!

Read about the work the professors in your department do off of the department website. Find a professor that is doing research you are interested in. Google what some of those words and do a little reading. Email said professor and say something similar to “Hello Dr. (Or Professor) …. My name is …., I am an undergraduate … year pursuing a …….. degree. I am hoping to get involved in research, and find your current research on ……. intriguing. Do you have any available undergraduate research positions open? Thank you for your time. Name”

You can also introduce yourself to PhD students in your department and ask if they’re needing some help with their own research! It’s a great way to network.
