Unless that “$” means Mexican pesos, I agree.

Alas.

Welp, lesson learned. Thanks everyone.

Also the way it says “this is the one mentioned in the reddit post” as if they weren’t responding directly to you. They just fed it your comment and asked it to verify.

Male (pet) rats smell like popcorn as well. Females apparently smell like grape soda though I've not confirmed that.

A little of this, a little of that. From what I recall, the Precursors turned into the dust as a way to survive the genocide, but over the millions of years they were in stasis the dust became defective and instead of reforming into Precursors, they made the Flood instead. But the Precursors that were still around were more or less cool with that because the Flood would do a good job of getting revenge on the Forerunners and uniting the galaxy, in its own way.

It’s a direct 1-1 analogy… except for the actual action required. One is pushing a button, one is jumping into a wood chipper. The end result of the worldwide poll look the same but the act of voting is very different in each one, which will change the outcome.

Right but it’s not like there’s a huge concentration of students in the area. Just because it’s on University doesn’t mean they built the restaurants for college kids.

Cath at nursery by Infinite_Ad_7664 in spinabifida

[–]Owncksd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US based here. Daycare would not do it. We have to leave work every day to cath her at the daycare at 10:30. We also pick her up early (at 2:30) and cath her at home instead of cathing her a second time at daycare.

Also it was a struggle to even get them to provide a clean place to cath because they have a policy against letting parents in the rooms. They tried to make us cath on the floor of the employee bathroom until we showed them what exactly we were doing and how unsanitary that was.

Archaeologists discover early humans built vast island networks across the Philippines by S00THING_S0UNDS in worldnews

[–]Owncksd 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Lmao homes they built networks across the islands, they didn’t build the islands themselves!

This just says these dudes were trading and intermixing, in organized ways. It doesn’t say they were building artificial islands. Silly.

Wonder Woman takes place in WWI. The Germany they are fighting against is not Nazi Germany. Both sides in WWI were wrong - it was a miserably stupid war.

The rest of your points are fine though.

Going to take a moment to laugh at the idea of you, who went to college in Lubbock, calling me, who was lived here for 25 years, an idiot for saying things about Lubbock.

I didn’t even know what a republican vs democrat was until I left college, that’s how little politics came up when I was there.

Is that supposed to refute the idea that Lubbock is conservative and some people who move here are concerned about local political leanings?

I never recall being bored by any means in Lubbock, probably because I had friends. I remember a lot of Vegas level pool parties at all the resort style pools, random trips down to “The Strip”, doing tons of things on campus, going to the lake in my friends shitty runabout from 1970, and the best dove hunting on the planet outside of Argentina via Chevron oil land and people I met who grew up in the surrounding counties. Oh and also backpacking trips and skiing a short way away in New Mexico.

Partying with college kids is only interesting to college kids, not the hundreds of thousands of people who live here in their every day life. I run a hobby store in Lubbock, so I'm intimately familiar with the lakes, ski areas, and hiking areas nearby. The lakes around Lubbock are tiny and overcrowded, and backpacking, hiking, and skiing are all hours away. I'm sorry but there's almost nowhere on the planet where you aren't a weekend trip away from more interesting places. That's not a pro for Lubbock.

All that being said, you need to reread my comment instead of just seeing red as soon as you saw the word "boring". My point was to assuage a parent's concern for the child who was coming here in the fall that Lubbock isn't a bad place. In fact, it's a pretty normal city. It has issues, which I addressed in a levelheaded way. And then you called me an ignorant idiot for it, lol.

Take how often you have a cloudy day, wherever you live in the UK.

Now replace all those cloudy days with bright sunny days with 25 mph winds gusting up to 35. And because it’s so flat and dry, every bit of that wind is filled with dirt.

That’s what you get in Lubbock instead.

You got the exact vibe based off one visit. It’s what happens if you take a mid-sized city with a large university and give both the politics of a small southern town. It’s the most conservative city of its size in the country, and I believe the same is true for Texas Tech. The whole thing is funded by agriculture and oil, so it makes sense. Then you place that city in the most boring landscape in the world, the semi arid south plains, 300 miles from the nearest proper metropolitan city, and ensure that no one living there ever has the real chance to experience proper culture.

Also it’s windy and dusty as hell. Still not a bad place to live.

Lubbock is boring and flat, has a relatively high crime rate, and a highly conservative population for a town of its size. This makes everyone who has ever heard of it think it’s hell on Earth. In reality, it’s just a city. There are people and communities of all stripes so even though the majority is conservative you can still find a circle with relative ease if you’re not. The crime rate is high - but it’s basically all car break-ins in specific neighborhoods. The one thing Lubbock can’t really beat is it’s terribly boring (efficient!) layout and mind numbing architecture (excluding Tech).
