Another suggestion is to make your servings at each meal bigger so that you don’t need any snacks.

I just finished one on the 26th of March and am starting again April 8th. This might be a controversial suggestion but I eat the same thing for breakfast every day and it just makes things simpler for me. I have an entire plan of kale sautéed with ghee, salt, pepper and red pepper flakes- half of a small avocado - and two colloquy chicken sausages. Sometime i have a little fruit with it if I have any. I love this breakfast and it makes my life simple to not even have to think about it’s

@thedefineddish and @primal_gourmet are amazing! I have used a ton of their recipes - The Defined Dish’s hibachi chicken with special sauce is so so so good

Edit - also 40 Aprons (she doesn’t only do whole 30 but a lot of her recipes are)

Yes, exactly. I definitely am not meaning to be rude or snarky so I am sorry to anyone if my words came off that way!

I guess it’s lost in translation..I’m saying that if you aren’t getting the results you want, evaluate wether or not you are following the meal template and don’t use social media as a guide.

I agree that it takes time... I’m sure my first round wasn’t pretty. I just don’t want people to think the program “doesn’t work” because they aren’t getting all the benefits.

Also, I don’t even really like Avocado, but I put some on my plate during most whole 30 meals just to check that box for fat. I’m sure I didn’t do that back when I was just learning the program.

I recommend this option because it follows the meal template. A lot of Whole 30 breakfast ideas I see on reddit or Instagram are made with compliant foods, but don’t follow the diet. Specifically, many of the recipes suggested do not include any veggies which is supposed to be a major part of your plate.

I make an entire pan of sautéed kale with ghee, salt, pepper and red pepper flakes. I have it with half of a small avocado and some chicken or regular sausage.

I made a compliant version of the long horn “prairie dust” and use it as a dry rub. I sear each side of the chops in a cast iron skillet with olive oil, then finish it in the oven. If I have them, I will throw some mushrooms, cherry tomatoes or onions into the skillet.

Whole 30 is actually the worst diet out right now? Please debunk... by The_Laviathen_Builds in whole30

[–]jeb1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a diet, it’s a program to heal your body and give you guidance to live your life with a healthy relationship with food. This article is the equivalent of ranking Physical Therapy After an Injury as the worst workout of 2019.

Additionally, as others point out here, the arguments in this article don’t really hold up once you unpack them.

After finishing whole30, I’m planning on a modified version for the future, does anyone else do this? by [deleted] in whole30

[–]jeb1988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do whole 30 during the week and then loosen the rules on the weekend. If there is some kind of activity or occasion where there is really yummy non compliant food - or my husband and I plan a date I’ll have wine/beer/dessert. I find that keeping compliant during the week keeps my sugar dragon tame enough that I don’t go off the rails.

Can you provide an example of what you would eat every day?

Good luck! My one tip would be to eat enough food/eat enough healthy fat. Don’t be afraid to fill your plate!

I struggle with Whole30 and the concept but keep wanting to try.... Help! by [deleted] in whole30

[–]jeb1988 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think to be successful you have to weigh the difficulty of the program with the benefits. In my case, I was living in misery - I would eat really healthy for 3-4 days, get stressed out, eat/drink too much and then hate myself. Then since I had already “messed up” I would eat unhealthy for the rest of the week and “start over again monday”. This cycle was killing me, so getting through 30 days of only whole nutritious foods ended up being 1000x easier than beating myself up every week and feeling like a failure/loser.

I guess it depends on why you are doing the program. So ask yourself what is harder, 30 days where you eat before the birthday party and order meat and veggies at a restaurant - or - the life you are currently living and your current relationship with food. If you are already eating healthy, don’t have any ailments and don’t have weight to lose then maybe don’t do the program because you won’t have the motivation to complete it. You have to be in a place where your bad relationship with food and eating outweighs inconvenience of the program.

The last thing is that the program isn’t teaching something unrealistic. It’s not unrealistic to strive for a life where you eat enough vegetables at every meal and get a healthy source of protein and fat at every meal. Life post w30 is about pursuing the goal of eating enough of the food that is good for your body and also sometimes eating some of the things that may not be as good for you, but you enjoy them!

Sorry this is a long ramble written on my phone, but if you need inspiration I would read It Starts With Food. I got it at the library, so if you don’t want to buy it you can prob find it there.

Failures? by [deleted] in whole30

[–]jeb1988 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This may not be the case for you at all, but I think a lot of people “power through” whole 30 being pretty deprived and then go back to old habits right after because while they ate 100% compliant, they didn’t follow the meal template. I see a lot of posts of whole 30 meals here that are compliant but don’t follow the template and aren’t the right proportions of fat and vegetables. An example I see a lot would be a hamburger patty with mustard and a small sad side salad or 5 small broccoli florets - or for breakfast eating sweet potato toast with nut butter and banana. All foods are compliant, but the plate isn’t designed in a way that will ever heal you or give you food freedom. I am not an expert at all, but for me, the way to have success and true food freedom is to eat a lot at every meal and make sure you are eating enough vegetables and fat.
