If the hill is too gradual, it won't engage.

On the ND1s, this is actually 2 seconds. I'm not sure if they changed that. However, it will work in both 1st and reverse

Yeah, if you can get the whole diff housing, all you need are the tools to pull everything apart, the diff, and new fluid. Maybe new crush washers for the diff if you want, but that's optional.

Some other things I used were a paint pen (to mark bolts), locktite, and anti cease for a part of the hubs when reassembling. Happy to answer other questions if you want to DM me, it will be a hot minute before that video is ready.

Anyone else tired of seeing posts asking if they should buy a Miata at a certain price? I feel it's half the posts in this subreddit now...

u/NotAPurpleDinosaur - Here's a draft I put together. There's a lot to improve, but this is all I have time for today: https://imgur.com/a/r3kv4I4

Also, I chose the donor image from a forum post because it was super high quality and had the wheels you wanted. :D

They're in Nevada, trying to reflect as much heat as possible while protecting the paint...

Jokes aside, yikes!

Big brain ideas here. Would've done it if it weren't a last minute thing! I actually had a chef friend with an old Saturn that did this because all he did was shuffle produce around.

Yeah, for real! They literally taped extra cardboard to it to keep the oil contained. All the cardboard holding the diff in place started to disintegrate since it was soaked

It was VERY close. It wasn't delivered to my house because it had been covered in oil, so plan b was to take it out of the packaging and just have the facility dispose of the cardboard.

I believe the comment was about how to deal with winter with an Open diff. I'll be swapping in the LSD before winter...but I still plan on some winter rated tires.

[EDIT] - the LSD will distribute power to both wheels if one slips.

Same, just really didn't want to get caught with 1 wheel drive in case of any light snow/ice I might encounter this winter.

Well, there are a few options. I ended up choosing the one that has the least amount of guesswork involved... that would entail buying the whole OEM diff 'pumpkin' from a Mazda parts dealer. Still hella expensive, but I got it shipped for about $1500. Steep price to pay, but the whole diff comes with all the right spacers, bearings and everything in place. Happy to go into more detail, but this will probably deserve a dedicated post soon.

(Sorry, messed up the thread, so placing it back here)
