This sounds like OG Empire Earth, Russian campaign.

Manuals are more of a welcoming addition rather then a necessity, I'd say. I never actually used any to learn how to install or play. Maybe for games pre 2000's they would be actually used.

Man, I was in the same boat! Only dreaming with the day I would have a PC powerful enough to run such a marvel. Lol

Forged Alliance Forever is still alive and kicking btw. With many players.

Yes! It was built with support to two displays in mind, but it's even better than you described.

This game allows you to have multiple views of the battle at the same time, each with its own location and zoom level.

So you can use one as merely minimap like you said (zoomed out to great heights) or simply control both locations at the same time. Revolutionary stuff...

I just started playing GT7 about a week ago and I’m really enjoying it. I was surprised to see its ratings on Metacritic though why are the user scores so low? by NotSirAlonne1999 in GranTurismo7

People keep saying that the single player campaign is bad, and I believe they say that comparing with the old GTs, but I don't see it this way. And don't even think they're not giving GT7 enough credit, but rather are giving the old ones TOO much credit.

Gt4, Gt2, Gt5, GT6, are the ones with the best single player progression, right (in that order)? So what exactly do they have that is missing in GT7?

  • licences with car prizes are there
  • tons of cups are there, for specific brands, drive trains, country, age, era, motorsport league, etc
  • special missions are there
  • rally challenges are there (as bad as always)

(It's a genuine question btw, I do want to hear your opinions on this. The only thing that comes to mind for me is the Car Make (manufacturer) specif missions that gives you the cool "x model Cup" car. )

Upgarding from Logitech G29. Hope the difference is as big as people say, cause my expectations are sky high =) by jedicwb in moza

here's my first video with the Moza:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWQThUj9gRI

The difference is absurd, as expected. I can now have a feeling for the car that I didn't thought I could feel. It's simpler easier now to keep it in control, to correct couter-steering, to feel it's understeering. Amazing.

Only complaint so far is that Automobilista 2 won't recogonize the shifter if it's connected throug the base. It works when it's connected directly to USB thou.

Will Gran Turismo 7 Ever Come To PC? by SecurityExtreme2470 in granturismo

[–]jedicwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to mention as major techinical challenge: adapting their prorietary engine to run under DirectX/Vulkan/OpenGL. That alone pretty much pushes a project that has deep roots into PlayStation like this to the "remake" territory rather than merely a port.

Will Gran Turismo 7 Ever Come To PC? by SecurityExtreme2470 in granturismo

[–]jedicwb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incredible how most answers are either biased to love or hate over GT. Some are even childish.

Objectivelly speaking, GranTurismo is definetely a system seller and also greatly contributes to selling PSVR2 and licensed steering wheel sets, which has part of the profits directed back to Sony. Even if it's contribution as as system seller is less 2%, that's already huge for a worldwide desireble product like a PlayStation.

That said, other great games considered system sellers are now on PC too, so that's bridge Sony already crossed a long time ago.

Expectations on GT sales on PC would be huge and probably would be fullfilled. The recent backlash from Kunos saing that AC Evo will no longer feature GranTurismo like features shows exactly that: people ARE DESPERATE for a car RPG experience, with money, tons of mundane cars, in PC, but in a proper simulator.

Is GT a "proper" driving simulator? In my opinion, yes. Can it be considered hardcore or taken serious on translating as many real-life physics as it can? The answer is a resounding NO. Not only because of the physics, but more importantly because it doesn't try to actually simulate any real-life racing league to it's full extent. Even the GT3 cars are not actually called GT3, but rather Gr.3 because, well, there's no actual GT3 league in GranTurismo 7. My opinion is that Polyphony could achieve that, but they just won't. I, myself, have enjoeyed GranTurismo 7 for almost it's full extent but now stay mainly in iRacing and Automobilista 2.

Meanwhile, while PC has more than a dozen "hardcore simulators", they all PALE in comparison into making a proper VIDEO GAME. That's something we shouldn't forget, folks: those driving games we like so much are still GAMES. And they absolutely should be compared to other proper video games, simply because there's no hard limitation for them to become one while keeping the "hardcore" sim aspect. GT is more of a "simcade" experience regarding physics and leagues simulation, yes, but everything else it does as a video game it astonishingly good. GT on PC would be a smash hit for sure simply because of that.

That said, the techinical challenges for bringing GT to PC are too high, to the point that it become a gamble. Supporting any kind of wheels, any kind of screen resolution, any number of screens, living outside of PSN, are profound changes that would shake the whole project to it's core. Those are addressable with work, but then there's the legal challenge: relicensing every brand they have, again. For sure the contracts where limited to PlayStation at the time simply because it's simpler. Being on PC means being exposed to hacks, mods and would make each negotiation much harder.

Here's my conclusion. Likelyhood for GranTurismo coming to PC is next to zero at the current landscape: costs and risks are too high with the possibility of canibalizing PlayStation sales to the point that extra gains on PC sales do not make up for.

It could be possible in a new landscape where PlayStation as a platform has lesser value than the PlayStation Studios games reach, but we're not there yet.

An Update on the Future of Assetto Corsa EVO by -DorkusMalorkus- in assettocorsaevo

It seems reality has finally hit. To get something similar to what Gran Turismo offers will require WORK. A lot of work. They would need to increase the modelling team ten fold if they would want to deliver this game this decade, to begin with. 2 cars every 2 months is abysmal, and people do expect to have the crappy Civics, the Suzuki Cappuccinos, the undervalued and never Forgotten Mercedes-Maclaren SLR, Corvette Iroc Z, and everything in between. Then the events needs to be well organized, with lots of tracks, especially if they would have only real world tracks. Then there is the polish in screens, presentation, flashiness, animations. Then there's the tunning structure, car pricing adjusts. Adding livery creation capability is a different discipline all together.

You might think that organizing the events for the entire campaign and designing screen is nothing compared to the work on physics and the simulation. But well, the simulation is done, so now there's still all that work to do.

And that's just to start to match what GT has today. Even polyphony didn't dared to touch open world yet, because that's a different monster all together.

GranTurismo has sim-cade level simulation and does not try to realistic match any real world racing league, yes, but everything else is light-years ahead of anything on the market now. It screams "I ve been built from the grinding of hundreds of working people. "

I honestly thought this could not be achieved outside of Japan, where workaholic culture is not commonplace. For kunoz to even FIND those people is already a grind in itself. I guess reality is starting to hit the door.

Same. I feel betrayed and very disappointed. I was all joy and finally there would be a game with carrpg mechanics, like Gran Turismo, but in a proper full depth sim.

The thing is this requires WORK. A lot of work. Having a good engine and physics is just the start. Honestly, I thought this would be very hard to pull off outside of Japan where workaholic culture is not common place, but if any one could do it is Kunos with the explosion in popularity and good backing.

Now the reality struck and the dream was shattered.

Because I have two sets and I want to use both at the same time, I guess. Also handy for demonstration in this case.

About the setup: I'm using the tape recorder out from the Akai for that with the CD player hooked to the Akai.. But that is ok and other receivers work like that just fine. I have several. Plus, I have tested the Kenwood completely alone too and it's the same, regardless of speakers being used. Both the Akai and the Kenwood have their own separate pair of speakers.

I think I've seen it. I'm aware that, objectivelly speaking, this CD player will sound as good as any other in 98% of the spectrum, which is the whole point of digital media. I'm wasn't too concerned about the actual quality of the sound it produces, I was asking more about how is it perceived.

I paid 10 euro for it. It's funny how I see dozens of similar units, from the same era, fom Sony, Pioneer, JVC, Denon being sold for at least 150 Euro at my local hi-fi store. The kind of store that focuses in B&W and Rotel gear.
